..."Saudi Arabia and the UAE have sent military forces to areas controlled by the Kurdish YPG group in north-east Syria, Turkey’s Yenisafak newspaper reported.

The paper said the forces will be stationed with US-led coalition troops and will support its tasks with huge military enforcements as well as heavy and light weapons.

Quoting the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the newspaper reported that a convoy of troops belonging to an Arab Gulf state recently arrived in the contact area between the Kurdish PKK/YPG and Daesh in the Deir Ez-Zor countryside.

This comes at a time when Ankara is preparing to launch an expanded military operation with the Free Syrian Army against the Kurdish PKK group in the northeast of Syria".

And THAT'S how you explain the middle east realpolitik of today.

Part two = Derp vs Non Derp.

NonDerp USA (Trump)/Saudi/Israel vs. Iran/Turkey/EU/DerpUSA.

Simple.

*** Syrian Christians in north-eastern Syria (who claim persecution by our Kurdish “allies”) sure as heck do not want Saudi Barbarians occupying them. Nor would I. ***

I do not believe there is one Christian group in Syria that doesn’t support the legitimate government of Syria led by Assad.

To anyone reasonably objective about the situation.

The Saudis and Emiratis have allegedly been there for about a month:
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20181122-saudi-arabia-uae-send-troops-to-support-kurds-in-syria/

If the subject article is true, they will be merely reinforcing their presence there. Should the Turks attack these forces, we may be looking at a small-scale conflict between the Turks and Saudis, in stark contrast to the situation a century ago, when they were allies against the Hashemites (who now rule Jordan) aided and abetted by Lawrence of Arabia. Saudi and Emirati aircraft would provide top cover from bases in Jordan.

Why would Mattis et al, be soooo against this?

Think 'the military-industrial complex'.

There's no money in peace...

Fine, just as long as every American is out of there.

The Saudis can eyeball the Turks over the Kurds fate, and

The Saudis can eyeball the Turks over who will head the New Islamic Caliphate, and

The Saudis can eyeball the Turks over who will ally with ISIS and the "Free Syrian Army" to fight Putin and Assad for the glory of "Arab Spring" Globalist Progs.

There is activity on two fronts.

There's at least half a dozen fronts right now in Syria.

My impression is that Mattis mainly opposed the risk this presents to the Kurds.
It’s a gamble. May work out well for the Kurds IMO, but I’m no General.

I must admit. That makes zero sense. Germany is not sponsoring terrorism.

“As long as Saudi is willing to be supportive of our allies, that removes a sticking point for me.”

Me too! But someone needs to have a Come to Jesus meeting with Erdogan. I honestly don’t know what the right answer is with Turkey’s membership in NATO and all that. I guess we wouldn’t want to kick them into the waiting arms of Putin, but Erdogan is a bad actor with designs on his own caliphate it would seem.

If I thought the Saudis could fight their way out of a wet paper bag this might be welcome news.

> Germany is not sponsoring terrorism

Tell it to the folks in Germany who can’t even complain about Islamic jihad in their own towns without getting arrested.

Terrorism is spreading all throughout Europe, wherever Merkel’s Migrants show up. Of course this is sponsorship of terror. They are literally kicking their own citizens out of homes to make room for these people.

I agree. There are also some decent Christians in the area.

I don’t want to see them slaughtered or abused if we leave.
