Supreme Court sides with Planned Parenthood in funding fight [Roberts, Kavanuagh join libs]
CNN ^ | 12/10/2018 | Ariane De Vogue

The Supreme Court Monday rebuffed efforts by states to block funding to Planned Parenthood.

It left in place two lower court opinions that said that states violate federal law when they terminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood affiliates who offer preventive care for low income women.

It would have taken four justices to agree to hear the issue, and only three conservative justices -- Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch -- voted to hear the case.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh appeared to side with the court's liberals in not taking up the case -- showing an effort to avoid high-profile abortion-related issues for now.

Roberts and Kavanaugh "likely have serious objections," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. "But such votes seem to be a signal that they would rather avoid contentious, high-profile disputes for now, at least where possible."

The case concerned whether states can block Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood affiliates that provide such women with annual health screens, contraceptive coverage and cancer screening.

Incidentally, I found Kavanaugh to be very deceptive during the hearings. I'm not saying he necessarily did exactly what Ford said he did, but I think he did a lot more than what he admitted. He was covering up a lot, in my opinion.

Maybe conservatives will actually wise up to this now. Before his confirmation, if you suggested that Kavanaugh was being less than totally honest, you would have been crucified by most of your fellow conservatives. :P

Oh, one more thing. A couple of months ago, a friend and I were praying that Kavanaugh would not be confirmed, unless it was God's will. Anyway, God is of course sovereign, so He allowed the confirmation for whatever reasons.

As always, there's still hope. Jesus told us that even though we will have trouble in this world, to be of good cheer. I just hope that conservatives will finally wise up and stop being so naive and gullible. And who knows--maybe Kavanaugh could be impeached, which might not be such a bad thing after all. ;)

The important thing is for us to keep praying. God is more than capable of handling the situations we face. But we need to become as wise as serpents. If Trump nominates another justice, we need to examine their track record THOROUGHLY. If they have deep establishment ties, don't be foolishly optimistic--expect another RINO.

Agreed. I think we’ve been set up, at the very least Kavanaugh will vote in favor of every piece of abortion legislation that comes before the USSC just to appease the left.

7 FBI background checks, including the last 3: the highest Court seat outside SCOTUS, pre-SCOTUS, and in media res confirmation SCOTUS. The most voluminous background compilation for any single SCOTUS candidate in AMERICAN HISTORY.

"Very deceptive"? "A lot"? What was Justice Kavanaugh "covering up", in your opinion? Let's hear it.

I think this case boils down to whether or not a Medicare recipient is able to go to a facility/doctor of their choosing. According to the law that was passed by congress, the answer to that question is yes.

That said, not sure how that got conflated with whether or not we separately fund PP with tax dollars.

If PP is able to collect donations for political causes, they can successfully solicit private funding. Cut them off the government teat.

NO MONEY FOR DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES

All we are doing is giving them taxpayer money and pretending that column A and column B are somehow “different”.

It’s like your wife saying “WE only have this much but THIS that I just got is MY money”

Are you referring to Kavanaugh here? If so, just a simple Web search could tell you lots of troubling things about the guy: 1) Bushite; 2) role in helping to cover up the murder of Vincent Foster; etc. It didn't take a genius to see that this guy seemed like a real RINO.

"Very deceptive"? "A lot"? What was Justice Kavanaugh "covering up", in your opinion? Let's hear it.

He was evasive on so many of the questions. I think he did have some physical contact with Ford, but I don't know exactly what. I definitely think he was covering up a history of drunken behavior in public.

And I thought it was interesting that he said he didn't even listen to Ford's testimony. If someone was lying about me, I'd want to hear every last false detail so I could blow it out of the water. I think he didn't listen because he knew that a lot of it was true.

Anyway, I didn't trust Kavanaugh one bit, nor do I now.

Oh, one more thing. Amy Coney Barrett should have been the nominee—never Kavanaugh.

"It's going to take a constitutional amendment to truly protect the unborn."

It's certainly the surest avenue that should be relentlessly pursued. Did Lincoln 'defund' slavery, or did Lincoln render slavery utterly unconstitutional for all time with the 13th Amendment?

The only way to get past the evil on the Supreme Court is to have a Constitutional Amendment.

Yeah and then another election will fix everything /s

That’ll be just as ignored as A1S8, 5th, 9th, 10th, 13th (vs. this topic alone)....

Wonder how many pages of ‘precedent’ it took to paper-over (ANY??) all references to the Constitution

That is exactly what I meant. What makes a person thinks when they simply ignore the laws that are on the books.

About 3 percent of the services proved by PP have anything to do with abortion related issues. The other 97% is cancer screening, and other preventative care. If they were not doing that screening, the rate of serious illness would be much greater, be done frequently at emergency rooms, and we would all be paying a lot more to cover this kind of illness.
