Jewish leaders are calling for new editions of the Bible and Koran to carry warning messages which highlight anti-Semitic passages in the holy texts.
The recommendations have been made in a new document called An End to Antisemitism! A Catalogue of Policies to Combat Antisemitism.
It was produced following an international conference organised by the European Jewish Congress, at which academics gathered to discuss how prejudice and discrimination can be tackled.
Among the policies mentioned in the document was the idea of warning messages in holy texts, a topic discussed in a chapter entitled 'recommendations regarding Religious Groups and Institutions'.
The document reads: 'Translations of the New Testament, the Quran and other Christian or Muslim literatures need marginal glosses, and introductions that emphasize continuity with Jewish heritage of both Christianity and Islam and warn readers about antisemitic passages in them.
'While some efforts have been made in this direction in the case of Christianity, these efforts need to be extended and made consistent in both religions.'
There are several themes in the New Testament that have come under fire for their use as justification for anti-Semitic attitudes.
These include the blame of Jews for the death of Jesus and the seemingly stubborn nature of the Jewish people and their disloyalty to God.
While there are some negative remarks about Jews in the Koran, and negative portrayals of the people.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has previously spoken of how religious texts can be exploited or misinterpreted to promote discriminatory attitudes.

Actually, Jewish scholars have normally been involved in the translations of both the Old and New Testaments.
Excuse me, but did not the Jews have the choice of freeing Jesus or another alleged criminal?
Did not the Jews choose to execute Jesus and free the other criminal?
If both questions yes, were not those Jews who chose to execute Jesus responsible for His suffering and death?
With veto authority?
Seems like there is one particular line about “the perfidious Jews” that seems to cauze much of the heartburn.
Yeah like when Yahweh told the Israelites to kill every one of the residents of Canaan and to take it over for their own but they failed and left one alive or some sh@t.
They sorta tend to go with all@h said it i believe it that settles it.
Cowards. Had to include the Bible as to not to appear anti-Islam. And by the way, Jews wrote the bible. WTF?!
Ishmael, a descendant of Arphaxas, a son of Shem, would himself have been a Semite, although his spouses may not have been. In any case, I rarely use the term anti-Semite. I prefer Judeophobe.
Ishmael’s mother was Hagar, an Egyptian and Hamite. Ishmael’s wife was herself Egyptian (Hamite). Thus, Ishmael’s descendants’ claims to being descendants of Shem more than Ham become very small.
"several {anti-Semitic} themes in the New Testament"
....and....
"some negative remarks about Jews in the New Testament"
The difference between themes and remarks is comparable to that between pounds and ounces.
Does anyone else smell the stench of anti-Christian apologists for Islam?
The "European Jewish Congress" is revealing themselves to be nothing more another front for the same old PC European socialists.
I am sure there will be a panel of jewish intellectuals discussing this matter from all sides. As is with everything else!
Two decades ago I remember a liberal Protestant national church body expressing concern about "anti-Semitic passages in the Old and New Testament".
I asked a Rabbi what that meant so far as the Old Testament.
His reply was priceless:
"Every now and then G-d gets pizzed at the Jews"
HA HA HA THATS JUST ABOUT RIGHT
Shemp
While some may have seen it that way, Christ admonished them to spread the word to the gentiles. I don’t think his motives were to make Jews jealous. It was to spread the word of salvation.
Romans 11, espc. v. 13-15, AMP discusses how the Gospel and inheritance was given to the gentiles, in v13/14 Paul clearly states he hoped to move the Jews to Jealousy to stir them up to seek the truth in the hope that some would receive salvation....
Clearly Christ demonstrated that He came to save all, first the Jew then the world. His discussions about salvation/kingdom of God did not differentiate. He used the Jew as a discriminator to the Woman who tried to deceive Him, and who’s faith resulted in her comment about “even the dogs eat scraps fallen from the Master’s table” (paraphrasing).
You’re lucky for only getting a week’s detention. I was thrown out in 2nd grade (Blessed Sacrament grade school) and again in my 1st year in HS (Vincentian Institute) for sticking up for my Jewish friends.
In that description, I don’t have a problem with it.

The implication of the headline, "Jewish Leaders call.... is questionable. They are leaders of a Jewish group, the European Jewish Congress. Accurate in the sense that it's presumably a Jewish organization, and presumably they are Jewish. However only about 7% of the world's Jews live in Europe, and the population is in decline. To the extent that anyone thinks this represents world Jewry, or a majority of Jews, or even European Jews, that's a mistake.
I have serious problems with Pauline Christianity. Thus I’m Noahide. Yet I know that the United States could not have been founded without the former.
