~ Happy Thanksgiving 2018!! ~
GOD BLESS AND WATCH OVER THEM, WHEREVER THEY SERVE
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation
Washington, D.C. October 3, 1863
By the President of the United States of America.
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.
I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

I got home about 4p...and am so ready to vegetate.
AJ just left for the hotel by the airport. He stopped in to pick up his winter gear. Leaves at 10a for Fairbanks, then a 5 hour drive to Pump Station 5 (I think I said 3 yesterday).
They hope to move Gypsy in January. She goes into a boat yard to have her mast restepped. Then she goes in the water and they will live aboard and start the shakedown process. They will sail and work, sail and work.

Possible snow on Saturday, and then rain Sunday and Monday. I’m getting really tired of this.

ergh! Liver and onions. You’re right - - made me wanna barf. LOL
I’ll freeze most of the ham in small portions and if there’s any left by Christmas, Hubby can eat that or I’ll do a cola roast if he prefers. More of that corn will definitely be on the Christmas menu! It’s scrumptious! I was so glad to find a farmer here who grows it because it’s been a while since I could find it. The broccoli casserole is dirt-simple to make but is yummy.
The kittehs get nothing special for the holidays. Like yours, they get cat chow just like any other day. Well, I might give them some kitty treats. :-)

I forgot AJ was heading back north this week. It’s a shame they couldn’t have given him a couple more days at home.
Are they taking Gypsy to Brunswick or did they find another place? They’re bound to be anxious to finally sail her after all this time.

Yucky weather! Are you sure you didn’t move down here? LOL! It sounds like the kind of weather we get during winter. Definitely not fun.
Just rain for us this time and it’ll be fairly warm through Sunday. Sunday’s rain is with a cold front and we’ll have 40s for highs next week. That’ll hurt after mid 60s Sat. and Sunday.
Right nippy out there right now but pretty. A bright gibbous moon lit things up while I was out burning trash. Also a little fog rolling across the farm from the lake.

Smart to freeze that ham so it doesn't go bad. It'll make several nice meals, I'll bet. I'd love to try that corn, but I can't imagine that we'd ever be able to find it here.
Wowza! It's later than I thought. Not that I have anything to get up early for tomorrow. Peaches is still out, so hopefully I can sleep without being stepped on.
Here he is, surrounded by the enemy, Ghost, Coal and Grey! [the rest of them were only out of the picture by a few feet. LOL] He was NOT happy!

There’s no way he can eat a ham by himself before it goes bad, even the small boneless ones, so I always freeze most of it. He can pull out a bag when he’s in the mood for it and eat that for a couple of days.
A friend of ours rented a couple of acres to grow veggies and melons for a few years and he’s the one that turned us on to Golden Incredible. He grew it one year instead of the Peaches and Cream he usually grew. I lucked on to a farmer between here and the museum this summer who grows it and bought a couple dozen ears. It was picked the day I got it and in the freezer that night.
Check your farmers market next year to see if anyone is growing it down there.
Had to lol at Peaches in his out-numbered moment. Too funny. Not to him though!
Enjoy a night’s sleep sans Peaches. Have a great day tomorrow!

TO ONE AND ALL
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
AWESOME
Military, our Allies, and their families.
Thank you, Ma for preparing the Canteen
for today's activities.
Thanks for posting Abraham's Thanksgiving proclamation.
The weather has been nice this week,
but today is going to be Brrrr...
Which might turn out to be a good thing
as the oven will be going soon.
I'm thankful for a lot, but
I'm most thankful that God
has kept me safe all these years,
even during my stupid rebellious stage.
And for the brave men and women who
go out to do what others cannot, in order to keep us safe.
Enjoy the day and be safe on your travels.
So, come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea;
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS
REMEMBER THEM
DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

One year we made a TV out of an oscilloscope and watched the football game in glorious shades of green...
We were in Conus but on duty and went home for dinner.
Thanksgiving dinner on station is generally a big deal

It's all good, but I like bread stuffing with sausage and I like cranberry orange relish.
Mama made me busy with that stuff when I was knee high.
Tear up some bread you heathen... get busy on the grinder LOL
