Breaking: @joyent, Gab’s new hosting provider, has just pulled our hosting service. They have given us until 9am on Monday to find a solution. Gab will likely be down for weeks because of this. Working on solutions. We will never give up on defending free speech for all people.

The main problem isn’t at the hardware level. It’s at the service level - payment processors, hosting platforms.
This is going to drive a lot of business in the US to overseas providers outside the reach of left-wing fascists.

I have a semi-porn business on twitter.
And a gab profile, not related.
Porn is worldwide, and normal.
If the internet gets yanked out from under Free Republic, we might have to think of old technology like having group talk sessions via telephone.
But if the tech czars go full Nazi on us, maybe we will have to end up meeting in person in local churches or American Legion halls.
I hope the outlook isn’t THAT bad. But to have no internet access would be quite a handicap nowadays.
They were de-platformed for no greater reason than that the shooter had a (not very active nor interactive) account there.
It’s as flimsy an excuse as you can imagine. Not one other social media service would be operating if these same conditions applied.
Guy who shot Scalise had a Twitter account. Murders and tortures have been livestreamed on Facebook. Child porn is common on Instagram. Etc. etc. etc.

In fact, I’d say this is the first time in 20+ years I’ve been here where I’d say there is now a genuine reason to be concerned that FR will be politically de-platformed as well, with all that is needed for FR to disappear being an excuse.

On pornography. It seeps into free speech areas. Pornographers financed much of the litigation of free speech in the US. Shame, but others don’t have the money.

Pornography has played a vital role in the development of information technology from the very start. Even before graphic interfaces people were trading porn made from ASCII characters on usenet.
It’s been at the leading edge of all sorts of video and networking technologies, and continues that role in the VR space today.
As much as one may not like it, it’s a major reason why the technology has developed at the speed it has. Without it we’d probably still have 1980s level computing.

I have (had?) an account on Gab. I set it up, activated it, and never touched it. I built no profile and I've posted nothing.
Every so often I'll get a message, "So and so is now following you on Gab!" and I think, "Why?"
Obvious when these Lunatics go on their sprees of violent behavior they’re giving cause for the noose to get even tighter on social media and the like.
On the other hand people think they can just spew garbage across the portholes of social media, as well as the Internet entire, with no common sense at all.
I would rate the Internet pretty much an X rated trap because these clowns put their stuff everywhere.
