Nike's controversial ad campaign with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has drawn a surge in Instagram followers and likes on Twitter and Facebook, which should translate into higher sales, according to one analyst.
Nike added roughly 170,000 Instagram followers around the timing of the release of its ad campaign, Wedbush Securities analyst Christopher Svezia said in a research note Friday.
"Indeed, [Nike] management knows its American consumer well and the campaign featuring Mr. Kaepernick is a positive for the brand and likely its sales," Svezia said. The company's shares hit a record high of $83.90 on Thursday. Wedbush placed a 12-month price target of $90 a share on the stock.
The ad campaign generated "possibly record likes by Americans" on social media, even though there's been a wave of anti-Nike comments as well, according to Webush's internal analysis of the marketing campaign. Kaepernick, who knelt during the 2016 National Football League season during the national anthem in protest against racial injustice, opted out of his contract with the 49ers and hasn't signed with another NFL football team.

I have an expensive pair my mom bought me for my b’day. I’ll still wear them until worn out. Then it’s New Balance from then on for me.
How many shares did Soros buy to pump up the price?

It's actually a deeply cynical possibly effective move. Perhaps they want to be the brand that mainstream white folks won't wear.
You’re supposed to have a communist identity, not an American one.
And now Mark Parker is trying to keep Oregon a sanctuary state. Someone on TV said this has something to do with their cheap overseas labor - don’t remember the reason they said but maybe it’s virtue signaling. Of course Mark doesn’t have to worry about such things as being invaded since he’s so rich now he has his own sanctuary.
I’m sure it is spontaneous, I’m sure Buffet or Soros have NOTHING to do with it!
Right!!!
fed a hungry child
Yes. What was the trigger used a few years ago which resulted in libs saying “that amount of money could have built X number of houses for the poor”. Or some other purpose. Something Bush did? Can’t remember. They converted the amount into mythical government giveaways to the downtrodden. Can anyone remember?
If you can, then let’s use it about Ocasio’s luxurious wardrobe spending!
I believe it.
Nike’s target audience is teenage boys, frat bros up to age 65, and black people. While they’re not all white liberal voters, none of them are really going to care much to ditch the brand.
Do you know how many bots and fake accounts can get you likes and added members on Instagram and social media ? So that’s irrelevant. There are artists who have 5 million followers on Instagram or Facebook and when they put out a record they can’t even sell 50,000 streams or copies the 1st week. And markets can be manipulated...we shall see what happens in the long run. How do you explain the NFL’s complete flop?
And..? So what; it’s just another insult to drive us to the polls.
a dead ‘kaep’ bounce
Thanks very much for the image. I tried 2 or 3 times a few weeks and months ago to describe some scenes from the George Pal 1960 version of the Time Machine here.
Remember that the old valued books were now crumbling to the touch and unread for a huge amount of time? The hero had to teach the Millenials (sorry, the Eloi) by implication in the scene, how to find out methods of building bridges, homes, highways, vehicles, setting up drugs and medical techniques, etc. that had all been lost and the educational content of the printed books gone.
Don’t forget the internet is world-wide - there’s a lot of socialists out there.
(which is why they want them to immigrate here)
Yeah, all the gangsters and drug dealers that will shoot you for your Nikes.
You have to wonder what percentage of those likes were influenced by money from Soros.
More crap to keep me awake at night.... I Guess I’ll just make my foxhole a little deeper.. :(
Do they still allow that? I use to trade about 15 years ago and I think I remember they put a stop to it for some reason. Who knows though. I remember though making a lot more money on shorting. It got crazy though, after a while I realized what I was doing was nothing more than gambling so I stopped.
