PINE RIDGE, SC S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster announced a mandatory evacuation of the South Carolina coast on Monday. All eight the counties along the coast would begin evacuating as of noon on Tuesday, McMaster said at a press briefing on Monday. McMaster said he would reverse lanes on four main roads to facilitate the evacuation. As of noon Tuesday, lanes will reverse on Interstate 26 from Charleston to Columbia and Highway 50from Myrtle Beach. Highways 278 and 21 in Beaufort County will be ready for reversal as of noon, but officials will wait to make an order at that time. State offices and schools will also close in the affected counties on Tuesday, McMaster said. We know the evacuation order Im issuing will be inconvenient, McMaster said. But were not going to gamble with the lives of the people of South Carolina. Florence would ore wind than Hugo and more water than Matthew, McMaster warned. Projections on Monday show the storm making landfall in the area of Wilmington, N.C., early Friday morning, but with much of South Carolina still under threat of seeing a significant impact. State lawmakers were saying the governor would order an evacuation beginning Tuesday. State offices and schools would also be closed in the affected counties, lawmakers said. S.C. Rep. Alan Clemmons, R-Horry, tweeted Monday afternoon that McMaster had announced to members of the Geveral Assembly he will order evacuations for the coast beginning at noon on Tuesday. S.C. Rep. Tim McGinnis posted to his Facebook page that lanes on major state roads would be reversed to facilitate the evacuations. As of 11 a.m. Monday, Florence had strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph. On Saturday, McMaster formally declared a state of emergency, allowing officials to put hurricane preparations into effect and begin coordinating resources. The S.C. National Guard can also be deployed during an emergency as necessary. The state has submitted a request to President Donald Trump for a federal disaster declaration, clearing the way for federal funds and assistance for any damage from the storm.
I have four generators of varying wattage depending on the task including an extra Duromax 4400 new in the box just because...
Duramax have large auto like mufflers - won’t keep you or the neighbors annoyed and awake.
Learned my lessons from Andrew back in August ‘92’.
Latest was Irma just a year ago.
6- 5 gal cans always full this time of year.
Extra 1 gal oil for said generators.
Heavy duty 10 & 12 gauge cords - 50 & 100 footers.
A small window A/C so there’s a few hours respite from the heat & humidity.
Keep a can of starter fluid in case there’s a reluctant generator.
Wheel kits for the generators (you’ll see)....
Battery operated fan - you’ll see.
...Right now, the forecast track would take it into the SE Coast some time on Thursday.
Once it makes landfall, the storm is expected to slow dramatically, and move to the north and west.
This kind of track would put significant rain and wind to the east of Western North Carolina, into the Piedmont.
Impacts will vary greatly from the Southern and Western Blue Ridge, to the Eastern Blue Ridge and Foothills.
Expect more wind and rain east of I-26 with this scenario.
The exact track and intensity is still uncertain, so subtle changes could make a big difference...
Thank you.
Stay out of the floodplain for the French Broad River. Make sure your accommodations are on high ground. Also, coming in and out, there will likely be risk of landslides and rock slides. Pay heed when you see the signs, they’re there for a reason. You do these things, should be fine.
10-4. Thanks.
Asheville and area had pretty bad flooding last spring because of a tropical storm. Could be a repeat.
Previously, max SUSTAINED winds were 150 mph. Now it is 155 mph.
It is possible that the storm might intensify more than this, and GUSTS can be stronger than the SUSTAINED.
BOTTOM LINE: appears to be a very DANGEROUS STORM...
There have been Hurricanes that produced many tornadoes that were more damaging than the the hurricane itself.
That said, those who stay will probably be SAFE, if they know what they are doing... But it is terrible risk to take.
Virginia has some limited evacuations orders.
US Navy is sortieing ships out of Norfolk, and it is scrambling to get this done.
Please check your mail, RC.
My Charleston kin are hitting the road tonight for IN.
The equestrian event is in Landrum near the NC/SC line. If you want a great pizza and cold beer, I suggest this place in nearby Tryon. http://www.sidestpizza.com/mobile/#home/index
Thanks, Neal.
My family had been in south florida since 1923. My brother got hammered by Andrew. He was in Culter Ridge at 208 and Cutler road. He was out of his house for 15 months. Few things I learned from my elders, empty garbage cans, hose them out, install big garbage bag, fill with water, throw in a cap full of bleach( non scented).
Fill empty milk jugs and put them in your freezer. A full freezer stays colder longer and you have drinking water to spare.
Use your vehicle as a portable gas station.

Bloat... Buy lots of ammo today
Fill up on propane
Be safe my friend..... Keyhopper
Consult a map. Ashville is 45 minutes from Landrum. Prepare for flooding. Trying took a massive hit last spring. A sleepy area.
Thank You! :)
Roger Smith’s Diner at the center serves alcohol. Best bet....go to The Hare & The Hound in Landrum. Very good spot.
I live in Sun City Hilton Head. As of this moment the hurricane is targeting Wilmington NC. Sun City is shut down as of tomorrow, all facilities are closed and we have mandatory evacuation ordered by the Governor. What utter and total BS. If you watch the (damned) Weather Channel...we are all going to die up and down the SC coast. Im betting Wednesday when Florence is supposed to be here it will be 92F, 80% humidity, just like every other day this summer. I hate this STUPID hype. People are evacuating here and are being put into real danger traveling when there is NO NEED. Too many damned Yankees running things.
Maryland needs a rain tax!
;)
They have been considering that for years...and may have passed it. THE Freak state.
Glad to help :)
