Shares of Nike Inc fell 3 percent on Tuesday as calls for a boycott of the sportswear giant gained traction on social media following its choice of Colin Kaepernick as a face for the 30th anniversary of its "Just Do It" slogan.
Former San Francisco quarterback Kaepernick, the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem as a protest against racism, posted a black-and-white close-up of himself on Instagram on Monday featuring the Nike logo and "Just do it" slogan, along with the quote: "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."
Over 30,000 people were tweeting with the hashtag #NikeBoycott on Tuesday morning U.S. eastern time, making it among the top trending topics on Twitter.

Shares of Nike Inc fell 3 percent....
Theyre going to fall a lot further. Who even made that bonehead decision at N should be fired...immediately.
Boycott Nike!
Just do it!..........................
Touche! Love it.
Those are fair points. Someone pretty high up must have green lighted this though. I don’t this simply came from their marketing team and there is no way an engaged 3rd party PR firm would have done this on their own.
It cannot be fixed. Like someone with a contagious disease, Kaepernick has infected too many others with his anti-Americanism. It is epidemic in the NFL now.
Great point.
This will only be about the 500th time I've seen a variation of the following sentiment expressed in abundance here on FR:
"I'd love to boycott [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE], but I don't buy anything from them anyway."
Uh....Bye!
Their stock is down 4%, if I recall correctly.
My guess: it had to be personally approved by current Nike CEO Mark Parker and former CEO Phil Knight (who's still on the Board of Directors). They better PRAY the company is big enough to withstand the public relations hit this decision is going to make, especially given what happened to Target Corporation when they tried to please Leftists.

Time to flood ‘em.
Nike has an agenda that is more important to them than profits.
I worked for a former Nike exec once. Most clueless, arrogant idiot I have ever dealt with. Sounds like he was typical over there.
First, Nike executives probably hate Trump and this is a way to go head-to-head against Trump - “in a non-political way.”
Second, Nike knows it will offend many older, traditional consumers but it is unlikely to turn-off many ignorant younger customers. And, they figure, the parents and grandparents will foot the bill for whatever the kids demand.
Third, this will give Nike tons of free publicity.
Fourth, this will give Nike the reputation of being a “rebel.” No, not a rebel like Washington or Lee.
More of a rebel like Satan: “I'd rather rule in hell, than serve in heaven.” How cool is that?
F Nike!
Don’t make it harder than it is.
That’s silly. Without profits, the rest of their agenda doesn’t matter very much.
The guy responsible for this is an Argentine leftist called Gino Fisanotti.
Your post #46 says everything that needs to be said.
Can I steal your picture for a post on another web site? It is perfect.
