Former National Security Agency contractor Reality Winner on Thursday was sentenced to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to leaking a classified report with information on Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election.
Winner, 26, was sentenced to 63 months, with no fine in a Georgia courtroom on Thursday. She received an additional three years of supervised release. Winner appeared in court Thursday wearing an orange jumpsuit.
Winner pleaded guilty in June after being held in prison at the Lincoln County Jail near Augusta, Georgia. Winner was arrested in June 2017, and charged under the Espionage Act for removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet, according to the Justice Department.
Winner’s 2017 arrest was announced shortly after the Intercept website published a story detailing how Russian hackers attacked at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent so-called “spear-phishing” emails to more than 100 local election officials at the end of October or beginning of November 2016.

When you first hear her name you think “what were her parents thinking,” but then you read that she chose that name herself, her stupid behavior becomes a bit more understandable.

Just look at Robert Gates, the worst SecDef in 50 years. Only McNamara was worse. This guy was such a loser as an Air Force 2nd Lieutenant (O-1) that he couldn’t make 1st Lieutenant (O-2). He was in for 3 years, promotion to O-2 is usually automatic at 18 months. It’s like going from E-2 to E-3. He was separated (soft kick-out) after 3 years. Any current or former officer that I mention this to goes, “Damn!”
Why do I mention Gates? After being fired by the Air Force, he fell ass-backwards into the CIA, rose up through the ranks, and eventually became director of that agency. So yes, I’m not to impressed with who they’re hiring and mentoring.
