Britany Jacobs, the girlfriend of the man shot and killed in a Florida parking lot last week, says her boyfriend was just coming to her defense and the gunman wanted someone to be angry at. Now she wants justice, she says.
Jacobs, who witnessed the shooting along with the couples 5-year-old son, said she and her two small children were waiting in the car for her boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, while he ran into a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida. Onlooker Michael Drejka got out of his parked car and began harassing her about being parked in a handicap space, she said.
Surveillance video showed McGlockton exiting the store and shoving Drejka to the ground. Drejka then drew a handgun and shot and killed McGlockton.

“Stand Your Ground doesn’t apply because that only applies to....”
Dude, srsly, don’t move to FL.
I don’t know the legalities in this case or this State. However if you are armed, you simply cannot initiate conflict. Period. The shooter is an idiot. I would lock his ass up.
He was like a territorial dog with a gun.
What part of that don't you get?
Do you believe that armed territorial whackjobs whould be able to hang out in public parking lots and "take issue" with any random person that uses the parking lot?
Tell me you don't believe that.
BTW - I'd agree with you if this was a one-time thing, and the gentleman who shot had spoken up about the handicapped space while there in the course of a normal day.
BUT HE WAS LIVING THERE.
Since I don’t park in handicapped places I see no problem.
I also see no problem with the disabled confronting lazy thug nutjobs and their dindu nuffin companions who routinely fill up handicap places.
There are always people who feel entitled to do whatever they want, when they want. Nobody who didn’t disregard the law and then assault someone for chastising them about it got so much as a hangnail here.
way to create strawman arguments, is that what your liberal friends on DU do for fun?
the context of the parking place is irrelevent. what matters is that someone fired upon someone who just viciously assaulted him and was still moving towards him to most likely continue the assault.
Why didn't the boyfriend call the police on his girlfriend's behalf if someone was bothering her? Why did he have to go and viciously shove someone to the ground?
My wife is handicapped and we use those spaces regularly.
It is very difficult for her to walk and every foot closer to the door matters.
It is not a trivial thing for people to block them.
Years ago I had blood clots from my feet up to my lungs, involving 75% of my lungs.
This compromised the main vein in my right leg. For years after that I had bad swelling and even mobility problems.
Right after leaving the hospital, it was hard for me to walk. I joined the YMCA so I could use their pool in a more or less weightless environment.
Rather than swimming laps like others in my age group, I joined the seniors over in one lane, walking and swimming short distances.
I did this for a few weeks, and you wouldn’t believe how many people came up to me to explain that only seniors should be in that lane. I was 42 at the time. So each time I had to go into this long explanation of why I needed to be in that lane to help rehab my leg.
People just can’t mind their own business.
I don't care where you park but don't physically attack me.
You are right it wasn’t over a parking place. I am mistaken on that. My point is we have to many people killing others and so many seem to not really care because in their mind “the guy got what he deserved”.
Don’t walk up to my wife’s car window and curse her out.
That’ll save you the problem ace.
So what?
That's true. The parking space dispute does not matter.
"...what matters is that someone fired upon someone who just viciously assaulted him and was still moving towards him to most likely continue the assault."
This isn't. The video shows the guy moving and turning away at the time of the shot.
“Provocation does not affect the plain meaning of the law. Her boyfriend would have been well served to keep his hands to himself”
I think McGlockton could have legal problems. I’m hearing evidence that the boyfriend could have believed his girlfriend was in some danger since he arrived at a confrontation between McGlockton and the boyfriend. He responded. McGlockton responded. The boyfriend is entitled to respond to threats to another person (his girlfriend) with reasonable force.
If McGlockton started it and it escalated, it’s shaky.
But one way or another, the police officer doesn’t understand the law. If you regard the incident as having started at the shove and ignore what happened before, it’s not a stand your ground case. Stand your ground just means you don’t have to retreat before shooting. And a guy on the ground cannot retreat with another guy standing there, assuming the other guy means to attack again. The issue in this case would be whether McGlockton was in reasonable fear of death or great bodily injury.
If you look at the whole incident starting with the argument with the girlfriend, it’s not a stand your ground case either because McGlockton didn’t defend until he could not retreat.
This case will turn on whether McGlockton had a reasonable belief that his life was in danger and whether the threat to his life had ended when he took the shot (the boyfriend stepping back). I would be surprised if the prosecutor did not end up filing charges.
Like a giant rattlesanake, with air conditioning.
Sure you can, especially if you believe you’re in danger form the guy who just assaulted you.
“It is not a “stand your ground” shooting! It’s a shooting. Maybe it will be ruled self-defense, maybe it won’t. Either way, “stand your ground” has nothing to do with it. “
Yup.
I would tell my woman to park the car in a legal space and I wouldn’t assault some little handicapped guy her desire to ignore a painted parking space.
But the, that is the difference between the way I think and the way you think, now isn’t it Bryan?
Folks who think this shot was righteous are wrong
The black guy had knocked him down and was actually backing away from the gun
You cant just kill everyone who knocks you down
Only pussies do that
You fight back or you lick your nuts
Bad shoot
Guy was a freak
I cant believe people here watch that video and go great job....its second degree murder or manslaghter
Sad
We have a lot of scared people here no offense
The initial assault itself could well have been a fatal attack. If the other man’s head had hit the curb this story could have been a homicide case in the other direction.
In a civilized society you do not breach the violence barrier absent justified self-defense. The moment you do, the law no longer protects you - even if the other person is a complete scumbag who may deserve it.
yes, the shove could have resulted in the victim’s death.
Luckily, the assault resulted in the assailant’s death.
