Here Are The Early Favorites For Kennedy’s Replacement
The Daily Caller ^ | Kevin Daley

Posted on 06/27/2018 3:28:28 PM PDT by detective

Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday, precipitating a cataclysmic election year confirmation battle.

Though the White House has publicly identified as many as 25 possible candidates to succeed Kennedy, the early favorites for the pick are drawn from a small crop of young appeals court judges popular in Washington’s conservative legal circles.

Speaking in the Oval Office shortly after Kennedy’s announcement, Trump confirmed he would draw his selection from a list of possible Supreme Court nominees assembled during the campaign. Five individuals were added to that list in November 2017.

These early favorites include Judges Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Raymond Kethledge of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Diane Sykes of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Nap hates Trump. I no longer read his columns. He is a fake conservative and a NY liberal masqerading as a conservative. As for Judge Jeanine...WOW! She would definitely spice up the place!

"Condi would be fantastic."

Heck, if we're going to go full Bush-bot I suggest we go with Harriet Miers.

Her nomination would drive the left into full on Wacko Bird mode.

Followed by decades of her SC votes driving the right insane. I think if you'd try to create a black female George W. Bush, Condi is what you'd wind up with. Globalist, through and through.

I just went to Predictit.org and bet on Amy Barrett (current odds of 26 cents to win a dollar).

Mike Lee was never a ‘never-Trumper’ like Kasich, McCain, Kristol, et al. He supported Cruz until Trump won the nomination.

He did say at the time, that he wasn’t interested in a SC nomination, but not because of Trump. And has recently said he’d consider it.

https://www.advocate.com/election/2016/9/24/donald-trumps-scary-supreme-court-picks

“He (Trump)specifically cited the list of court picks and its inclusion of U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, one of the Senate’s most anti-LGBT members.”

” Lee also opposes abortion rights and, according to civil rights group People for the American Way, believes many social safety net programs operated by the federal government are unconstitutional. These include Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, disaster relief, food stamps, and regulations on food safety, child labor, and the minimum wage.”

He has voted “pro-Trump” according to FiveThirtyEight,
83% of the time and the ‘no votes’ like Cruz and Rand Paul were on mainly ‘continuing resolutions’ and budgetary issues.

As a free-trader he’s against tariffs.

And because of his pro-Constitution and small gov’t orientation would never become a Souder, O’Connor or even a Kennedy or Roberts for that matter. Thought Obamacare unconstitutional.

I have stuff on Mike Lee. Don’t wanna go there. His Mormon family mentor growing up in DC was Harry Reid. I have worse.

“Mike Lee is not a conservative. He is not a patriotic American.

Mike Lee is a slimy, two faced, never Trump Clinton operative.

He should never be appointed to SCOTUS.”

Ditto that. I have stuff that will blow him away. I’ll let it sit as long as he stays where he is.

Agreed. His cheerleading for Mueller turned me off so much I just mute him whenever he appears on Fox News (which is far too often).

Too old. Diane is 60. Brett is 53. Raymond is 51 (maybe), but I would rather a judge aged 45 at the oldest. Why on Earth would we want a 60-year old? That seems crazy to me. I am pissed off that Alito is 68 already.....we pick old goats all the time. The Republican Presidents are so dumb.

Manchin, Heitkamp, and Donnelly all voted for Gorsuch, so I’m assuming they’ll vote for Trump’s nominee, or else they’ll get hammered at the ballot box this Nov.

Some caller on the radio today said to nominate Mike Pence to the SC and bring Nikki Haley onboard as VP.

Kinda like that idea. Would give the Left all sorts of conniptions.

She is 63 years old? Why on Earth do Baby Boomers still have to run this country. They have done enough damage. Actually she probably wouldn’t be confirmed as a lot of Senators think she is a war criminal.

Justice Kennedy made a strategic move with his letter to President. Trump will take advantage of this gift to land a double whammy on the Democrats. McConnell will shape confirmation to paint the 5 vulnerable Democrat Senators into a corner just before the election. They will have to vote to confirm to have a chance for reelection, but having done it, their base will forget what day is Election Day. Win, win for us.

A fall SCOTUS Confirmation drama will motivate both sides, and the Democrats will be even more insane than they have been in the last few weeks. This will help them in the deep blue House Districts, but they were going to win those anyway. The Red and Purple districts will be disgusted by the the temper tantrums that we are going to see and the Blue Wave will turn into a circle of water rushing down the drain.

Kennedy’s gift to Trump will be a real gift to the Nation and will live well beyond Trump’s two terms. So,who will he choose? Gorsuch II is the short answer, a true conservative with Judicial humility with a record that will ensure that we don’t end up with a Souter. Gorsuch II will have the super power to be completely invulnerable to the attacks of the Left that are sure to come. He will be young and vigorous and he may well be a she. Trump and his team have been getting ready for this day and they are ready. The doofus Democrats are not up to the task and will fail.

How about Bill Pryor, Justice of the 11th Circuit Court and former Attorney General of Alabama? He’s young, and President Trump has had him on his short list, also.

TCruz has recommended Senator Mike Lee. Would Lee be able to vote on his own confirmation if he were selected?”””

Mpt only is that a sticky question, we don’t need to lose a Republican Senate member.
