Here Are The Early Favorites For Kennedy’s Replacement
The Daily Caller ^ | Kevin Daley

Posted on 06/27/2018 3:28:28 PM PDT by detective

Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday, precipitating a cataclysmic election year confirmation battle.

Though the White House has publicly identified as many as 25 possible candidates to succeed Kennedy, the early favorites for the pick are drawn from a small crop of young appeals court judges popular in Washington’s conservative legal circles.

Speaking in the Oval Office shortly after Kennedy’s announcement, Trump confirmed he would draw his selection from a list of possible Supreme Court nominees assembled during the campaign. Five individuals were added to that list in November 2017.

These early favorites include Judges Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Raymond Kethledge of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Diane Sykes of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

He might nominate a qualified woman. The Court could use one of those.

Has Senator McCain weighed in with his preference?

Regardless of the gender or color of skin he will nominate an imminently qualified person.

A Ted Cruz recommendation is probably a Golman Sachs recommendation.....no thanks.

I will trust Trump. He did great with Gorsuch and if we can get another constitutional judge, it will be great progress.

Sykes is too old and Trump won’t appoint a third woman in my opinion.

Moreover, we need someone from the south and OTHER THAN an Ivy League education and the tea sipping, mint julep mind set that goes with it.

Like Ted Cruz!

And, please don’t tell me Trump won’t appoint Cruz because he needs Cruz in the Senate. Most likely Abbott would announce for a special election to replace Cruz and he would win running away. And, Abbott is much more conservative than Cruz...……….if that’s possible.

Condi would be fantastic. A bit more liberal than i’d prefer, but very close.
Her nomination would drive the left into full on Wacko Bird mode.

I hope Trump picks a very young conservative constitutionalists, who also has enough of a background to show they can be trusted in the decades to come. These justices are way too powerful these days, and the lower courts are full of liberal activist judges, so we can’t afford to waste an opportunity as big as this by getting someone in there that turns out bad. I’m not very familiar with all the possible nominees, but I hope there are some obvious choices out there who are young and healthy, have nothing in their history that can be used to blackmail them, and are strict and reliable conservative constitutionalists. We need the best that’s out there.

We have to fight the lefts hysterical attacks tooth and nail every step of the way. We all need to do everything we possibly can to help conservative republicans fend off democrats and increase our majority in the senate in the upcoming midterm elections, so we are able to take advantage of other openings like this down road. We have to do more to increase voter turnout among the complacent and idle Trump voters out there who aren't as interested and involved in politics as those of us here. I believe we can and will be successful with Trump leading the way. TRUMP 2020!

Yes, my guess is that some Dem Senators, who are up for re-election in red states (Manchin, Heitkamp, Tester, etc), will help create a quorum to facilitate a vote, but then will vote against the nominee. In other words, they will try to have it both ways. It still will expose them to their homestate voters as being captured by the Dem Leftist extremists and Chuck Schumer. This is great. It could help dump a couple of those redstate Dem Senators.

How about an non-lawyer, a true Constitutional Originalist, and a fighter that doesn’t seem to have any political baggage. I’ve always thought Tom Fitton was a first-rate mind and think he would make a good choice. Probably wouldn’t survive the process though.
