Here is a corollary to this saga.
If Mrs DoodleBob and I were scofflaws and were pondering illegally entering Lichtenstein and thought the likelihood of us being separated from the little DoodleBobs was high, we'd stay at home. We love our kids too much to take that chance for a AAA rated country.
To be fair, this threat of separation was small under the Obama regime. And, to be sure, a parent may face a Hobson's choice in staying in, say, North Korea vs risking separation. I get it.
But Mexico isn't NK - it's not a sh**hole, remember? And Trump has been around for about 18 months - everyone knows there's a new sherif in town.
So...the question to ask is: what does it say about the parents, that they're willing to risk separation from their flesh and blood, in breaking the law?
The protestors should take the unaccompanied young ones home with them.

These kids made it to an age where they were able to “make it” to our borders, so they’re either enabled, put up to it, or, are part one of a scheme to use to reunite the adults with the kids, on OUR side of the border.

You know what helps separate the kids from their family? The welfare states which literally pays women to have kids as long as the father is not in their life. Welfare state usually leads to jail for a lot of the young males, prison yet another system that separates people from their family. They think this is a winning issue, but it’s not.
Some of the biggest reasons Americans can’t stand illegals flooding the borders because they bring their kids with them and it allows them to get on social programs and flood the public schools wreaking havoc and causing a saturation level that’s already bad in some areas. The left always goes for the children angle. Remember all the Syrian refugee camp reports, the media would go grab a little kid and the mom to evoke sympathy. Still most Americans were not for that either, no matter how many sad kids they showed on CNN.
Also where exactly do leftards think we’re going to put all these people anyway? These so-called environmentalists who want to protect all the trees and stop progress and business development. Yet they have no consideration of the environment when it comes to illegals flooding the country...very strange.
