San Diego County supervisors vote 3-1 to support the Trump lawsuit against California sanctuary laws

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 3-1 to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California over laws that the state passed last year to limit its role in immigration enforcement.

The county will file an amicus brief at the first available opportunity, likely on appeal, said Kristin Gaspar, supervisor for District 3 and chairwoman of the board.

“We’re talking about people who are crossing the border illegally, coming into this county and committing a crime and them being let loose probably to commit another crime,” said Dianne Jacobs, supervisor for District 2. “That creates a public safety issue and creates a problem in our neighborhoods.”

Gaspar, Jacobs and Supervisor Bill Horn voted to support the lawsuit. Supervisor Greg Cox voted no. Supervisor Ron Roberts had a previous commitment and did not attend the meeting.

A long line of supporters and detractors addressed the board Tuesday morning after a group of people hoping to dissuade the supervisors from supporting the lawsuit rallied outside.

Supporters of the lawsuit felt that the laws in question were an overreach of state power and worried that it would inhibit the federal government from deporting people with criminal convictions.

Critics said they worried that allowing local police to work closely with federal immigration officials, which the laws limit, would create less safe communities because immigrant victims or witnesses wouldn’t call the police.

Many accused Gaspar of bringing the issue to a county vote to gain media attention for her campaign to take the Congressional seat of Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista.

“Lawyers, prepare your briefs, legal briefs that is. This will be a legal slog.”

Funny, isn’t it, how no matter what, no matter WHAT, there’s reams of lawyers raking in the cash. Win or lose. Raking it in.

This group will applaud the trump effort to bring in National Guard units from other states to replace uncooperative california guard units.

“Then it grew to a massive size and the Left, like every other big city in America, took over.”

Then its union and welfare lists grew, and the left got power.

Pretty big deal. San Diego is the 2nd biggest city in CA, if i recall correctly, and one of the best places we have lived. I doubt the county is also the 2nd largest but its still very big. Good on SDC Commission!

I’ve rediscovered some of my DVDs of S&S after the big move late last year.

At lunch, I’ve watched some this week.

After season 4 of Ironside, jump to the 80s.

It's a real big deal. And the liberal screw worms and mental cases running the state know it!

Gee, some pro-US citizens step up to support the law of the land. How low have we sunk when common sense is exposed as if it were some evil ideology?

San Diego County is about the same size of Connecticut and has a population of more than 3 million. San Diego County also shares a border with Mexico.

I’ve been living temporarily in San Diego for the last few months. Though I do run into more Calif conservatives than I expected. I have also run into a good many imbecile liberals (I repeat myself) as well.

Wow! Proud of my ‘Temporary Home Town’ of San Diego! Lived south of there (10 minutes form Tijuana!) in the early 80’s.

With all of the military people (active and retired) at Coronado, I was HOPING it would go this way for San Diego County!

Finally! Some sanity out of CA! :)

Now that the State of California has put out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants by making itself a Sanctuary State, it makes no sense for illegal immigrants to live in any other state.

As illegal immigrants enter California in growing numbers to gain guaranteed sanctuary, people from areas like San Diego who don’t want to be overrun by the flood of incoming illegals can find better lives in any of the other 49 non-sanctuary states.

And everyone can live happily every after.
