Three or four teachers and staff carrying at schools would probably be enough to protect most schools. Time after time comments are made that teachers are just unwilling to carry. Yet, every time free classes are offered for teachers, more want to take the classes than there is available space.

I’m not at all surprised that teachers want to be able to defend themselves.
Learning how to carry a concealed handgun is easy. Effectively shooting it in a high stress situation is really tough.
Which is bad for the anti-gun lobby, because school shooters will be less successful.......
And yet in circumstance after circumstance, amateur shooters have a better track record than police when confronted and pushed into a "shoot or die" situation.
I wonder how many of these liberal snowflakes would freak out when they learn that I carry on the flight deck.
If the want to mitigat death by teacher, they better learn marksmanship before carrying. If they cant hit a grapefruit at 10 feet, they better leave the pistol at home.
Yup. Any monkey can pull a trigger. Hitting your target is the challenge.

True. Butt, if someone is shooting at me, even if they suck at it, I will retreat.
Yes, all these hypotheticals about how badly people with concealed carry permits do in self defense situations.
But it is reality that matters. People actually do pretty well. They have an important edge most police officers lack.
They are already *in* the situation, so they do not have as much of a problem figuring out who the bad guy is.
To carry in a school, you have to have serious motivation.
The people who teach teachers and staff to survive this situations say their students are serious and do well.
To me “Concealed” means you cant see it on Google Maps.
The amount of training, philosophy and point-counterpoint on concealed carry could take you hours and hours.
Sometimes it’s appropriate, sometimes not. If you need someone to respond quickly then putting up roadblocks between them and their resources isn’t a good idea. If you’re trying to “maintain your cool and carry on” then you can’t get the response that you may need.
Teachers are citizens, and as such they are protected by the Constitution which SHOULD be protected by Congress. Funny, though that on all government property the constitution doesn’t apply and the same government who created the “Americans with Disabilities Act” that fines people and businesses tens of thousands of dollars every second prints paper money that the blind simply can’t use.
All problems lead right back to government and being governed.
All of god’s creatures have defenses. Teeth, claws, antlers or even evasive abilities like speed, flight and other clever things. Human beings were given superior brains to develop tools to defend themselves. But the government has come along and taken that from us.
Which is like making it illegal for rabbits to run, deer to have antlers and bears to have claws. Government is ridiculous. And this conversation of arming teachers is also ridiculous.
They are human beings and deserve - no, DEMAND - the ability to defend themselves. I don’t care what a sign says, what a milquetoast weenie jackoff gets offended by or what our rulers think they can tell us what to do.
People should have guns. Teachers are people.

This raises the question of what are our expectations for the teachers that carry? If shots come from the hallway, are they expected to remain with their class and protect them or are they expected to go out into the hall and seek out the shooter?
I am of the opinion that EVERY teacher needs to know basic first aid and how to unload and make safe:
- a revolver
- a pistol
- a pump action
- a break action
- a bolt action
- a lever action
- a semi-automatic rifle.
Those that wish to go beyond basic safety class could then be taught their CCW.
I suspect a third of my fellow students would freak if they knew. Only 2 know and one of them carries, the other is a vet. PS all of the students are retirees.

If they did freak out, the idea that you are the one Flying the Plane would be lost on them.
Am I correct that when a Pilot or Co-pilot leaves the Cockpit to use the Restroom, one of the Flight Attendants is supposed to go stay in the Cockpit until they return?
What happens when one of them needs to use the restroom varies by airline procedure and the aircraft type. If one of the pilots steps out the cockpit door is locked behind him. The other pilot must remain seated at the controls with his oxygen mask on. On a small plane like a commuter jet the remaining pilot can reach backwards to let the other pilot back in when he has finished his business. On the larger jets the door may be too far behind him so an FA will sit in the cockpit, not because she is expected to be able to assist flying, but just to let the other pilot back in the cockpit.
You will also notice that some airlines will use a beverage cart to block the aisle while the cockpit door is momentarily open to stop a passenger from rushing the door.
Hope this answers your question.
And yet, the USA has fought and won wars with citizens’ armies, composed of non-professional soldiers from all walks of life — including teachers.
