Learning how to carry a concealed handgun is easy. Effectively shooting it in a high stress situation is really tough.
And yet in circumstance after circumstance, amateur shooters have a better track record than police when confronted and pushed into a "shoot or die" situation.
Yup. Any monkey can pull a trigger. Hitting your target is the challenge.

This raises the question of what are our expectations for the teachers that carry? If shots come from the hallway, are they expected to remain with their class and protect them or are they expected to go out into the hall and seek out the shooter?
And yet, the USA has fought and won wars with citizens’ armies, composed of non-professional soldiers from all walks of life — including teachers.
I'll go out on a limb a bit here and make two predictions:
**There will only be 2 or 3 shootings of attackers by teachers within the next few years.
**The attacks will stop (with the exception of those schools which continue to be gun free fire zones) because the attackers won't want to risk it anymore.
So, while I don't disagree with you at all, that situation will almost never happen in the next 10 years.
On the flip side, nobody is really ready for a life and death situation the first time they are confronted with one - even the best training can't inject the natural adrenaline flood and all that goes with it.
