Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee, has died at age 88, her office announced Thursday.
To have met Louise Slaughter is to have known a force of nature. She was a relentless advocate for Western New York whose visionary leadership brought infrastructure upgrades, technology and research investments, and two federal manufacturing institutes to Rochester that will transform the local economy for generations to come," Liam Fitzsimmons, chief of staff, said in a statement.
Slaughter had been hospitalized after suffering a concussion in her home, her office said earlier this week.

I think it will be a Repub seat for the taking. Rochester? Doubtful. But I'm sure that's what a lot of Democrats said about Pennsylvania 18. Anything is possible...with the right candidate. And there in lies the rub.
To: bagster
Yep. They can count on her vote for all eternity.

Yeah, Mark Assini, the Gates town supervisor, was the guy who got thiiiiiis close to beating her. I believe he's already said he won't run again for congress, so I don't know who the GOP is going to pick.

Must be a coincidence that the two big Democrat names in the News this week are Lamb and Slaughter.

No, not our critter. Her district was out west.
Rochester and inner city Buffalo plus a strip along Lake Ontario - a district gerrymandered to always be Dem - was her ‘domain’.

What happened? Did her broom crap out in flight? Now, if only Rosa DeLauro would suffer the same fate, two of the ugliest women on the face of the earth would be gone from view along with their rancid politics.

From reading the portion of the article posted, you would think bringing home the bacon was the highest calling of a representative.

Slaughter was sort of a reverse reconstructionist, a modern day carpetbagger, up from the South, to free the inner city denizens in Buffalo, with Big Government goodies.
How'd she do?
To: alternatives?
For all the years she was in Congress , Slaughter was only able or willing to bring home bacon bits for a few. .. just before her next election.

That's very unfortunate. RIP. I live in her district....RIP and good riddance.
She is nothing but a hyperpartisan democRAT. Maybe now we can get a Republican in that seat. It was close the last time with Mark Assini. My assumption is that Mayor Lovely Warren will run and the Republican will beat her easily.

She was a bad one. I will say that. If you can’t handle it, get away from me. We are not worse off for this communist’s passing.
