President Trump: Confiscate Guns Now, Worry About Due Process Later
The Truth About Guns ^ | 02/28/18 | Robert Farago

Posted on 02/28/2018 3:59:56 PM PST by Simon Green

“President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights,” thehill.com reports. ‘I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,’ Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence. ‘Take the guns first, go through due process second,'” This he said despite . . .

Vice President Pence’s caution on gun confiscation.

Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.

“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,” Pence said.

“Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court,” Trump responded.

Here are some more choice Presidential quotes from the firearms chin-wag:

“Don’t worry about adding in the bump stock ban, I’ll do that myself — fortunately we are able to handle that without going through Congress.”

“The background chekcs are so important….people are afraid to do background checks because they’re afraid of….somebody. ….I don’t care who’s endorsing you, you’re going to be MORE popular if you do it.”

“It takes so long going to court to get due process – I like taking the guns early — so I like what you’re saying, but take the guns first, go through due process second”

“Some people don’t like the word comprehensive….I like the word comprehensive. I’d rather have a comprehensive bill. Can you merge yours into this bill or would you rather have a Fix NICS bill?”

“It would be really nice to create something that’s beautiful, that works.”

“What surprises me is that nothing has been done for so many years…I don’t understand why this hasn’t happened for the last 20 years…..there is so much commonality between Republicans and Democrats.”

I think folks need to relax. This is Donald J Trump, remember, Art of the Deal?
He’s just doing a little Rope-a-Dope. He’s put nothing down on paper. Hasn’t signed anything.
You people who are panicking will wonder what you were thinking.

If you have an argument with your spouse and someone calls the police, they will run you at the DOJ to find out what guns you own before responding to the call.

No they don't.

Give it some time and watch it play out.

Trump talks a big game during negotiations...outside of bump stocks and increasing background checks on felons and the mentally disabled wackjobs, I don’t little of this passes Congress - and he kmows it.

Companies have done that kind of thing before.
Then they quietly come back when the issue dies down.

I am a supporter of Trump and everything he has done. If he does anything to take away our 2nd amendment rights he can kiss that support goodbye. We are a nation of laws not demagogues.

And for the record I don’t believe Trump is for confiscation of guns at all.

Agree, the pants on fire, Oh noooos, are getting a tad panicked. Cruz was a psycho who threatened to shoot up a school months before he did it. There should be a way to stop people like him. That's what DJT is kicking around.

That’s all very well and good for the scenario you describe but, it doesn’t really address the underlying point which is that Trump shouldn’t be suggesting, carte blanche, that we should “take the guns first, then go through due process”.

Imagine the following alternate scenario: Some neighbor of yours doesn’t like that you own guns, for whatever leftist drivel reason, goes to the police and claims you are acting crazy, and gets a bunch of his friends to “testify” to the fact too (i.e lie about you). Then also let’s say you are on some mild anti-depressant medication, that isn’t necessarily indicative of your mental state or capacity to responsibly own a gun, they are just some medications you are taking for a mild case of chronic depression.

So you see where this is going? Some leftist with a grudge against you for whatever reason, maybe it’s not even because you own guns but just because you vote conservative and he knows you do, and thus you must be “stopped”, and since he has no compunction about lying (because he’s a leftist) lies to the police and gets some of his friends to do it too, “corroborating” his complaint. And you are on record taking anti-depressant drugs (which can be twisted into further evidence you are “crazy” when you are not), all of these “reasons” can be used as justification for “taking the guns first, then go through due process”. And exactly what is that anyway?

You now have to go to court to prove you are innocent is what it is, which is the exact opposite of what this country is all about. You shouldn’t have to go to court to prove your are *not* crazy, your accusers should go to court to prove you *are*.

So you or anyone can claim I’m a “pearl clutcher” for not taking this latest spontaneous remark by the president very well. I don’t care. I’ll still *know* I’m a patriotic American who cares about infringement of my God given rights.

-- Who decides what people get to keep guns. --

"Who" bottoms out on superior force and willing to use it.

I am biased to a position that assumes the government intends to eliminate all ability to resist. It aims to keep the people as harmless and productive livestock.

Much prefer communities to disarm the dangerous among them, without use of government.

Sure Because the courts have done such a good job with DACA? They don’t even have jurisdiction over an executive order but that hasn’t stopped them from legislating from the bench

Yep.

I am disgusted with Trump at this point.

Dunno what game he thinks he’s playing, by my civil rights are not to be used as pawns.

He’s going to end up in checkmate.

We now have Rand Paul’s broken ribs to show where all this is going.

We need to bring it to a stop now.

When someone posts about becoming a professional school shooter in his own name and multiple individuals are all but giving the time and date of his massacre ahead of time, I have no problem with all of his guns being confiscated immediately based on compelling circumstances. This would be an unusual case, as Cruz was telegraphing his intentions.

There is a supposed acquaintance of his who was saying Cruz was obsessed with ISIS and that he visited ISIS web pages. Is this being hidden from the public?

Good points .

Trump was extremely reckless today and fueled the Gun Grabber Left and media for another few week.

He trashed the NRA and a phony 2nd amendment .

The midterms will be disaster .

Okay, offer evidence that if one has an argument with their spouse & the police are called, they will run you at the DOJ (whatever that means) before responding to the call.

I have a feeling that this meeting’s tangible results will be the same as that bipartisan DACA meeting that Trump hosted a month or so ago.

Nothing.

Remember? Trump said he would sign anything and take the heat on DACA.

What has he signed on DACA so far? It’s a rhetorical question.
