MSNBC Host: Handgun Bullets Are Ineffective In Stopping School Shooters Because They're Too Slow

Talk about a facepalm moment. Is it the media’s stupidity or stacking sandbags because they know this National Rifle Association initiative could gain traction? You decide. The NRA wants more armed guards in schools. Teachers should be allowed to carry as well. After the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, the school board voted to approve this proposal. This is not an alien concept. A lot of schools have resource officers; Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of the most recent school shooting on February 14, had such officers. They failed to engage the shooter, Nikolas Cruz. Scores of teachers in Ohio are signing up for gun training courses to obtain their concealed carry permits. So, since the NRA is akin to ISIS in the minds of the liberal media, what do you do? Well, if you’re MSNBC, apparently it’s to make the argument that handguns aren’t effective in stopping shooters, who are armed with rifles, because the bullets from pistols are too slow.  I will repeat that: handgun ammunition travels so slow that its ineffective at stopping someone armed with a rifle (via Daily Caller):

MSNBC anchors are claiming that teachers armed with handguns would be unable to stop a school shooter because rifles shoot “three times faster.”

Anchor Lawrence O’Donnell said on his show Thursday night that “a bullet fired from an AR-15 travels 3x faster than one from a handgun…and yet the president and the NRA think giving teachers guns will stop a school shooter.”

Lawrence: A bullet fired from an AR-15 travels 3x faster than one from a handgun.

And yet the president and the NRA think giving teachers guns will stop a school shooter https://t.co/heze69kRDU— MSNBC (@MSNBC) February 23, 2018

Yeah, there is a difference, but we’re talking tenths of a second here. Also, veteran J.R. Salzman seemed confused with this narrative: didn’t two Capitol Police officers stop a shooter from assassinating scores of Republicans in Alexandria as they were practicing for the annual congressional baseball game? Uh, yeah—they did. They confronted the shooter, they engaged him; he turned out to be a Bernie Sanders supporter, and they neutralized the threat. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) was almost killed in the attack.

Where did this BS narrative come from that you can’t stop a rifle with a handgun? When has that ever been a thing? Are people’s memories really so short they don’t remember Capital Police stopping a Bernie bro with an SKS shooting at congressman on a baseball field?— J.R. Salzman (@jrsalzman) February 25, 2018

This is the reason why the media will always lose the Second Amendment fight. Millions of Americans own firearms. They know the caliber, they know its capabilities, and they also know what the proper terminology is (i.e. automatic vs. semiautomatic). I’m not talking super technical gunsmith jargon, just basic details about the gun. They know what they have and the media’s pervasive failure to learn what they’re talking about will never allow them to win over Americans they need to change the nature of gun politics. That’s because the alternative floated by the Left is straight up gun confiscation, evisceration of the Second Amendment, and the stripping of American civil rights. That’s also another reason why they’ll never win. We know their game. It’s this type of trash peddled by MSNBC that makes for great entertainment.

A firearm is a tool that is used to help your family survive. To hunt food, defend the homestead and to otherwise provide for your family.

They can also defend your home by being sold to pay rent. Sadly, this was the fate of my Five-seveN pistol.

That firearm was the best pistol I have EVER owned. It was going to be my final pistol. The one that I can take with me everywhere. It was basically a rifle in a pistol package.

From the sights to the layout, to the firing mechanism and of course the ammunition.

The ammo was unique because one company made it, and they were completely consistent. Now others make it, but I stuck to FN exclusively. Everyshot was just like the last one.

Carrying a round chambered was a challenge. It’s single action. Appropriate leather for concealment is rare. Most leather is duty leather without any concern for concealment.

The muzzle flash from this beast was almost science fiction.

bullet behavior was so flat, so predictable that it was awe inspiring.

As a survival weapon, this was where to be. You can carry lots of ammo at a low weight and space premium. You can use it to hunt if you’re stranded in the wilderness and you can use it to defend against gangs in the inner city (Do you know why a lot of gangstas wear down coats ? It’s basically body armor.)

It was 40 rounds of wild-dog counterattack. Packs of feral pitbulls roamed my area. I was no longer afraid. Dogs don’t respond to bangs. They don’t fall. You need to shred their muscle tissue in order to prevent the attack and you need to do it to all of them.

I would pay $1500 for another without hesitation. at $2000 I would wait but if I had it I would jump on it.

And get a newer generation.

The 45 was developed precisely because of its stopping power as a result of the failure of existing sidearms against the fanatical Moros in the battles in the Philippines that ensued as a result of the Spanish-American war. Is there any TV host more ignorant than Lawrence O’Donnell?

My Liberty .45 aluminum hollow point rounds travel at 1950/fps. Pretty fast and does add to knock down power. Plus they frag quite a bit.

I seem to recall an episode of the original Star Trek series, “Spectre of the Gun” was the title, in which Chekov was asked what he would do if one of the cowboys fired a bullet at him.

“I would step aside and let it pass” was his confident response, if I recall.

Easier said than done, I dare say.

Super Man was faster than a speeding bullet - and that was from a .38 revolver and it surely is slower than one fired from an AR-15 rifle.

But, ... I doubt any potential school shooter is nearly as fast as Super Man.

The 21 year old shooter at Aztec NM school last year used a pistol.

If pistol bullets are too slow why have the leftist democrats raged against handguns for the last sixty years?

Obviously we need a NASA to the Moon type national effort to find a way to get handgun bullet speed to exceed that of an AR-15. That way MSNBC will finally get over their worries about the issue.

It seems incredible to me that a LEO in a car does not have access to a rifle in his car. There is a John Wayne quote somewhere to the effect that strapping on a revolver holster does not mean expecting trouble. Anyone expecting trouble will have a rifle in hand. You’re driving to a mass shooting, and you are feeling big and brave carrying a pistol??? What - are you afraid of “escalating the situation?"

Cartoons are Lawrence O’Donnell’s education and journalistic level. Only in America can a man so stupid, so wussie, so talentless be paid such an income to make a fool of himself daily. Sadly, too many Americans love such drek! They like being lied to.
