WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The body of evangelist Billy Graham will lie in honor under the U.S. Capitol rotunda next week as Congress pays tribute to a clergyman who counseled presidents and preached the Gospel to millions worldwide, House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Thursday.
Graham, who died at his home near Asheville, North Carolina, on Wednesday at age 99, will arrive at the white-domed Capitol on Feb. 28 and lie in honor there until the following day, Ryan said in a statement.
“Members of the public and Capitol Hill community are invited to pay their respects to the late reverend while he lies in rest,” the speaker of the House of Representatives said.
Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will take part in a bicameral service when Graham’s coffin arrives, the statement said.
A spokeswoman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, North Carolina, said by phone that the family had approved a request from McConnell and Ryan for the public tribute.
Graham preached Christianity to more people than anyone else in history during his 70-year career, reaching hundreds of millions of people either in person or via TV and satellite links, his ministry said.

Well that should make a lot of heads explode in D.C.! I hope he’s well-guarded.
Very few people are accorded the honor of lying in state in the US Capitol.
Its a fitting tribute to the Rev. Graham, known as “America’s Pastor.”
May he RIP.

He was an amazing person and great pastor.
I saw him in Los Angeles in 1986. He was the most inspirational and uplifting speaker I had ever heard in my life to that point.
No question that he is now at home with Our Lord.
And where will the protesters, paid and volunteer, be corralled? Rev. Graham receiving the respect and admiration he deserves.
RIP, sir. The end of an era.
If he didn’t make it into Heaven, I suspect none of us will. I somehow doubt that anyone reads The Washington Post there or watches a Harvey Weinstein movie.
Who was the last non-governmental person afforded this honor?...................Hint: it was a WOMAN.................

When I was a kid, back in the Stone Age, here Down South, people were laid out in the casket in the living room while visitors brought tons of food...................
My grandfather was laid out in the front room of the house. As a ten year old, it gave me the creeps. He was a bad man, so I already had the creeps.
You got that right! The vitriol hatred in our society for Christians and conservatives/patriots is palatable. Our institutions and those they influence have been perverted by Christ haters. I would encourage all Christian and conservatives to do whatever it takes to protect yourself and your family. Owning a self-defense gun would be wise.

Good! He certainly deserved the honor, and I hope they behave themselves. I’m a Catholic, and I thought he was great - I saw him preaching once on the Great Lawn in Central Park.
