A Carnival cruise devolved into near-anarchy during its 10 days in the South Pacific, with some passengers locking themselves inside their cabins, others kicked off the ship and security guards brawling with vacationers in a bare-knuckles melee.
Carnival said it would investigate what happened after a video surfaced, showing the guards punching, kicking and threatening passengers during the worst of the fighting Friday. But the cruise line is already blaming a large family group for instigating the violence, which some passengers said escalated for days before security could contain it.

Violence is cheaper to watch at Walmart.
No matter how many sources I look for this story, I cannot find photos of anyone. Wonder why.
btw: Been reading about a NCL cruise in the late fall where someone or some outfit gave away 100 cabins to needy folks from Puerto Rico homeless from the hurricane. Full rate paying travelers on that same ship were screwed. Reports of freebee winners or freeloaders ... playing their boom boxes in all common areas of the ship, destroying all the vacation piece and quiet of paying clientele.
Lovely world we live in.
Why is this news worthy when everyday there are 500 other cruise ships sailing the oceans without a fight or outbreak of norovirus?
No mention of the family heritage causing the problems. I would have went on the hunt for the bastards! I bet I could have found a few more hunters to go with me. Toss their sorry asses overboard!
“Why is this news worthy when everyday there are 500 other cruise ships sailing the oceans without a fight or outbreak of norovirus?”
Because it was one ship of 500. Duh!
Cruise lines aren’t registered in the USA for a reason!
They’re offering a 25% discount for those who had to endure the unpleasant few days.
Heck, I’d pay extra, that sounds like a party. Lots of targets, lots of fun. An entire family of bullies is just what the doctor ordered.
In all seriousness, I wouldn’t even consider a cruise anymore. I did in the past (Rosie O’Donnel will likely never forget), but I wouldn’t go now.
What a nightmare. Maybe the crew has never experienced this level of passenger violence, and has not been trained about how to handle it. The carrier can keep their 25% off the next cruise. I suspect for many, there won’t ever be a ‘next’ cruise on that carrier ever.
Well, that sure sounds like Some Enchanted Evening. I may be a Cockeyed Optimist, but I think a little bit of Happy Talk could have gone a long way to prevent this trouble. But really, to behave this poorly, Youve Got to Be Carefully Taught.
I’d play that game with you. Probably two of us would be overkill, but hey, that’s still fun.
Family squabble, unlimited booze. What could go wrong?
I take it keelhauling and the cat’o nine tails is out of style?
Chuck E. Cheese of the Sea?
You just exactly said why its newsworthy.
It’s Carnival, the ghetto of cruise lines.
Carnival being the cheapest they attract low life trash. Imho.
Funny, the perps look pretty pale to me:
This happened on an Australian cruise. Sounds more like cousins of the Hatfields or McCoys...
I just came back from my 30th cruise, and never had a single problem. When we hear news about norovirus breakout on a ship, it is never mentioned that other 499 cruise ships had zero problem. I have gotten sick a few times from eating in restaurants, which never makes the news.
All well and good though, because this type of news keeps prices lower and I will be able to reach my goal of 50 cruises.
we take Disney Cruises all the time- expensive but well worth it...we are often docked in port with Carnival Cruises and its a different element of people; drunk, rowdy, hostile, arrogant...then again they pay $500 for their cruise so they get what they pay for...
about 10 years ago a Carnival Cruise ship ran out of gas in the gulf, was stuck for several days and handed out plastic bags to passengers and they toilet system was overflowing...choose Carnival- choose fun!!
I would be worried about pirates. Seriously, if ship security can’t handle this, what about high seas risks.
Betcha terrorists are listening, watching this incident.
