Senate rejects centrist immigration bill after Trump veto threat

The Senate on Thursday rejected immigration legislation crafted by centrists in both parties after President Trump threatened to veto the bill if it made it to his desk.

In a 54-45 vote, the Senate failed to advance the legislation from eight Republican, seven Democratic and one Independent senators. It needed 60 votes to overcome a procedural hurdle.

Depends on how you define hope. If your hope is the Grassley plan will now pass, that has even less chance of getting 60 votes. If your hope is for no immigration plan being passed then I'd say your odds are pretty good.

What’s ‘centrist’ about the suspension or abandonment of the law?

If Congressmen believe erasing or ignoring the law leads to fairness, compassion, economic stimulus, etc. then I submit that ignoring laws against bank robbery and car theft will quickly produce more economic stimulus than they can imagine.

They are pathetic. One party wants an army of new breeding and voting stock. The other hopes that if they pretend to be nice guys the breeding and voting stock will cast 5% of their votes for them.

I've gotten oddly hooked on watching the US Senate in session on CSPAN. It's less exciting than watching paint dry. Their goal seems to be to accomplish nothing that doesn't line the pockets of their paymasters. The dems have one goal....to make President Trump look bad. NONE of the dems stand up to the lock step demands of Shummer. The pubs are not all loyal to the voters and give in to the dems as much as they can get away with.

There's only one rational answer. Let DACA expire. Other part of the solution. How about some backbone from leadership? Take away important assignment from 'pubs who are traitors to their voters.
