PARKLAND (CBSMiami) — A suspected shooter is in custody and as many as 7 people are dead in a school shooting at a Parkland high school.
Authorities have taken a person into custody in connection a deadly school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
BSO confirmed the suspected shooter has been taken into custody and at least 14 people have been injured in the shooting.
Sources told CBS4’s Jim DeFede that as many as 7 people are dead.
A senior official said the shooter used a rifle.
Officers could be seen handling someone in handcuffs at a community at 11735 NW 47th Drive, near the school just before 4 p.m.
A source briefed on the events said the shooter “is possibly a former student.”
The father of a student at the school says the shooter was allegedly “wearing a black vest with a red shirt…and supposedly he pulled the fire alarm and planned it,” according to CBS This Morning.
Margate Fire Dept. said earlier that anywhere from 20 to 50 people might be injured. A number of people could be seen being loaded into ambulances on a stretcher around 3 p.m.
The school was place on lockdown, but students were trickling out in the last couple of hours, many with their hands up and tears in their eyes.
Inside the school, a student shared a picture as they took cover.

CBS4’s Rick Folbaum was speaking over text message with a student at the school who was hiding in a closet. She has since been freed.
“All of a sudden there was a really loud noise…..people are crying the closet,” the student wrote to him earlier.
Officers are asking people to avoid the area.
President Donald Trump has been made aware of the school shooting.
“We are monitoring the situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected,” wrote White House Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued a statement on the shooting. At last check, he was on his way to Parkland.

Some senator already was in Congress, making a speech about how we haven’t done anything another school shootings. Etc etc.
Its crazy how liberals want to politicize everything, and before we even fully know the facts , launch right into the gun control debate.
Thank goodness we don’t allow ideas like “Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not lie” into government schools.
Theres probably another homicidal sick mind thinking that he/she would love this kind of publicity....if we keep broadcasting this stuff everywhere 24/7...we might be laying the impetus for another sick mind.

A new St. Valentine’s Massacre.
Rather one who is controlled by enemy and his demons.
I was debating a woman about ending the WOD and she said that doing so would end protections against DUI. When I pointed out that NO ONE is proposing making DUI legal and that thousands of people are killed and injured by drunk drivers in spite of so-called “protections”, all I got was silence. Laws aren’t meant to protect people as they can ONLY punish people AFTER they have committed a crime.
The other day, I was perusing some vintage high school yearbooks from the 1970s and noticed the abundance of rifle and shooting clubs. Funny how there did not seem to be a problem with school shootings back then and that this very seldom, if ever, is considered by the liberal Dumbocrat crowd.

I’ll bet $1000.00 he was on Ritalin or some other mind altering drug that parents give their children! So far ALL mass shooters have been on these, one form or another! STOP THE MADNESS!

Wondering if there was a break-up relationship wise in regards to the shooter and this being St. Valentine’s Day. So very sad. Prayers.
According to the Miami Herald, he had caused trouble at the school before, and was not allowed back on campus............
I can’t believe that people think that letting bipolar teenagers have easy access to semi-automatic weapons is a bad thing. I will never understand that.
