AWKWARD: That Time Sen. Chuck Schumer Called for a Grand Ticker Tape Military Parade...

Trump's proposal to hold a pro-military parade has excited much heavy breathing and political posturing from Democrats.

To wit:

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.): "I think confidence is silent and insecurity is loud. America is the most powerful country in all of human history; you don’t need to show it off.”

Rep. Adam Smith (D-Calif.): “A military parade of this kind would also be a departure from the values of our constitutional democracy."

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.):"Because authoritarian regimes like Russia and North Korea hold massive military parades does not mean that we must as well."

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.): “President’s Trump’s desire to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on a military parade in the style of authoritarian leaders he admires would feed his ego and perhaps his base, rather than serve any legitimate purpose or keep with any long-held American traditions."

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.): [Comparing it to a Soviet May Day parade] This is "not an image that we much associate with the United States of America."

The MSM, of course, echoed the Democrats' concerns:

"Trump's Military Parade Draws Bipartisan Rebuke," reported Politico. The typically hysterical Washington Post, where democracy dies in darkness, reported as news, not commentary: "Military Parades Are About Ego and Power. Of Course Trump Wants One."

WPXI News lamented: "Trump Flirts With Flashy Military Parade Long Eschewed By US."

But the United States is no stranger to big, flashy military parades. As The Daily Wire pointed out, "public displays of military might, including tanks, missiles, and hundreds of thousands of troops occurred in 1919, 1942, 1946, 1953, 1957, 1961, and 1991."

After 8 years of Obozo, I tune out any democrap who says “our values”. They haven’t got a clue about my values. I like to see military units in parades.

In addition to the 1991 military parade in DC, the sainted JFK had a sizable military component in his 1961 inaugural parade to show off US might..... so don't let any Libtards get away with saying POTUS Trump is just trying to please his own ego.

Rep. Lieu - color him Pinko
Rep. Holmes - color her pinko. Her past is interesting
Sen. Whitehouse - color him insane

Don’t know anything about Kennedy. Probably don’t want to.

In August 2003, my son’s unit came back from service in Iraq with at least one Presidential Unit Citation for putting up the first Ribbon Build (advance pontoon for the old timers) in combat (across the Euphrates which helped the 3rd Infantry Div drive on to Baghdad (4th? Marines coming in from the East), which ended the war.

When they were activated from the Reserves (they were voted the No. 1 Reserve unit in the country by US Army Reserve magazine), our representative, slowly going insane Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA, who I had known for years), didn’t show up to wish them well as they departed for advanced training before shipping out.

When the came back in August (without any casualties despite fighting mujaheedin snipers and remnants of the Iraqi Republic Guards), Moran was not there to greet them.

Well, screw Moran. They had a general little formation parade by themselves and hundreds of family members, friends and strangers, plus senior Ft. Belvoir military officers who cared about their troops.

So if the Democrats don’t want a parade, DON’T COME. You won’t be missed. Cowards and traitors never are.

I was at the Vietnam veterans parade in the 80’s and my kids were at the OIF parade in 2004 (or so). We were among heroes, not Zeros.

How about one awesome military parade; see link. A time when all Americans wanted to honor our returning military heroes, those who God brought home alive. Today’s Liberal haters and the MSM cockroaches who disparage and mock President Trump’s wish to honor our military, should slither back under the rock they crawled out from.

I have to respond as a former member of the military, evidently unable to readjust to civilian life. Well, maybe that is correct. But I for one am not sure how much I want to adjust to this current crop of civilians. When the choice is between vagina head gear in a parade or tanks and rifles, I would always choose the latter regardless of how unpopular I became.

The popular acclaim resides with those who are contra-educated to abhor the Constitution, the virtuous and valorous founding of our country, and classical liberal principles found in values of the Enlightenment. They are perpetual children without essential humanity; empty, ignorant, feckless, emotional, overactive, and under challenged.

It seems to me they suffer from SISD or Self-Induced Stress Disorder.

Ironically, Ted Lieu’s district has an Armed Forces Day parade every year, and he participates. (Torrance, CA).

That’s really awesome. And to think we had almost 100 Divisions during WW II.

When the flag passed in front of the crowd, men took off their hats, everyone not saluting held their right hand over their heart. There were damned well no kneelers in those days.

Trump should say “Let’s just ask the military” whoever wants a parade

They would probably ALL line up

I just don’t like so much hardware offline and in one place. And not ready to shoot.

Good point. Republicans were once known as the “Family
Values” and “American Values” party. But low and behold
the Demo-MSM Party hammered those concepts as being
anti-choice and racist dog whistle words so the GOP
put them away. Now, the left has co-opted ‘values’
for their own dubious purposes.

Just the other day on the local level I posed questions
on Facebook to a supervisorial candidate who is new to
this very rural area. She writes articles for the local
paper so I know she is a liberal and a lesbian. After
weaseling out of my Fed govt vs California law
regarding the immigration question I posed a query about
bringing jobs to the county. She supports a program
to incentivise locals to start businesses. (If you
want to bring in 100 workers to start a furniture
building company just forget it). To make a verbose
story less so she said we need new businesses which
will respect “our values”.
