Let's face it, nobody but my mother-in-law likes phone solicitors. She'll talk to them for hours and the Jehovah's Witnesses that knock on her door every Saturday morning. She once hung up on my wife because the Jehovah's witnesses were knocking on the door.
But this is mostly about handling phone solicitors. The phone rings. You know immediately it's a solicitor.
Homeowner: This is Chief Inspector Flanagan from Homicide. You've called in the middle of a crime scene investigation. The homeowner was found dead a short while ago. But while you're on the phone, let me ask you some questions about your relationship with the deceased.
In no time at all, the solicitor will have hung up.
it doesn’t work because they’re all robo calls - you’re listening to a computer, not a human
Or some inspirational bible quotation and wishing them well — it carries on the caring of God.
( after listening to their spiel): “Oh, you’re trying to SELL me something! I thought you were just another bill collector!”
Never limit your firing options...
>>Really, this is an example of why the FR set can get a reputation of being assholes.
These people are using my phone to call me and do not compensate me for it. I block their numbers so they spoof a local number. Most of them are selling a borderline fraudulent service. Every FReeper should be such an asshole that they abuse these scum.
When you hope the next person can accept their call, remember that it might be a older person who doesn’t have full mental acuity and they might just buy their third extended warranty on the car they don’t drive anymore.
I say that because it happened to my parents. The warranty company is Palmer Administrative Services in NJ and they are a vile bunch of thieving MFers and they get very abusive when you call to cancel the warranty in the first 30 days (as they claim you can do).
Once I know it’s a sales call, I simply hang up. Salesmen are very thick-skinned, and you’re doing them a favor by not letting them waste their time on you.
LOL, saw that a few years ago, just as funny to see it again. Thanks for posting it!
Not all are robos. I get human solicitors all the time.
You distorted what I said with your self righteous paraphrase.
Try again after reading.
These people are calling up others to harass or intimidate or scare them into falling for their scams to steal their money and you’re wishing them well?
I’ll bet you’re so proud of yourself.
Your holier-than-thouness is showing.
Sounds interesting, and just keep repeating it no matter what they say. I like it!
>>Tll them youre with Scientology and welcome the opportunity to sign up a new recruit and that youll need THEIR credit card number, home address and a phone number to call them back.
>>Or even better, get out a Bible and read John 3:17-18 to them. At a minimum, youll get the Gospel out to a few folks.
They’ll hang up immediately and move to their next intended victim. The law won’t protect us and we can’t cut their throats, so wasting their time is the only thing we’ve got.
Obviously you don’t get 50 calls a day from these annoying types. You certainly think you are holier then thou though. Gotta give you that.
Well when its at the expense of some poor schmoe who might not have found anything better to do in a still selective job market I cede the opportunity to jest.
I remember when I had sh*t jobs.
The people making the calls are not the ones making the bucks.
All such calls are that? I believe you are guilty of what you accuse. Even a cold hang up is better.
I recognize the scripts, and the voices, etc. and when you interrupt them they keep to their programmed script. AI has come a long way, but every inflection is the same, the accentuation, enunciation, etc...just hang up and move on. these people are nuisances, but they get no more of my energy than it takes to hang up.
I let my 14 year old son with DS talk with them. He really enjoys it because he learns social skills.

Many of the numbers are faked. They especially like using a local number. I would never do business over the phone and surely not with someone who fakes information.
