Whispers are rampant throughout D.C. that a vacancy is imminent on the U.S. Supreme Court - one that is currently taken by one of the most liberal members of the Court.
It has the Trump White House giddy over the prospect of potentially and forcefully shifting the balance of power on the Court while Democrats in Congress are said to be warning White House staff of a prolonged and brutal fight should President Trump attempt to replace a liberal Justice with a hardline-conservative nominee.
The reason for the Justice's alleged departure is said to be "ongoing illness/physical limitations."
The first on the Court that comes to mind given those clues is 84-year old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Justice Ginsberg has visibly slowed down a great deal in recent years, and has been prone to falling asleep in public, even when on the bench. Ginsberg's office has taken to pushing back on rumors of her health issues via a series of left-leaning media publications, but Court watchers have noted Ginsberg's increasingly limited public schedule of late.
Despite his 79-years, Justice Stephen Bryer's place on the Court apparently remains secure, but not so with two others - swing-vote Justice Anthony Kennedy, 81, and liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor, 63.
Justice Kennedy, a moderate liberal (or moderate conservative depending on who you talk to) has already hinted at possible retirement, so he is not the likely source of the current Supreme Court rumors. Justice Sotomayor, though, despite being among the Court's younger members, is said to be struggling greatly with her workload as she deals with a worsening diabetes condition. Court watchers have noted a visible decline in just the last year where she appears to have aged ten years. Rumors are also swirling regarding staff having to take up an increasing workload for the ailing Sotomayor who is said to have difficulty maintaining her train of thought for more than short periods of time. And like Ginsberg, Sotomayor's staff is working hard to orchestrate a media-driven narrative to counter rumors of her decline.
Here is the thought that is now keeping the far-left elites up at night. Justice Kennedy might very well be preparing for retirement. That would be one Supreme Court vacancy. And if the rumors of ill health regarding Ginsberg and Sotomayor are in fact true, that could be two or even THREE vacancies on the Court for Trump to fill within the next year or two.
Poor Sotomayor. So much can happen if you have a certain type of genetics. She was so spunky and energetic when she got in.
I want her gone, of course, due to ongoing promotion of the liberal agenda.
Excellent!
[[The first on the Court that comes to mind given those clues is 84-year old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.]]
No she haas vowed- out of spite, not to resign- claiming she is fit enough to continue-
All of those prefixes assure that there is nothing “Conservative” about a person like that....
Conservatives need to accept that this is so and reject all who were such nonsensical appellations and pretend to be like us....
Think eight years on that impossible, OK?
Just like Justice Kennedy was retiring in October.
There is no reason to get excited about this until and unless it actually occurs. Regardless, this underscores why it is so vitally important that the GOP retains control of the Senate - Schumer would never allow a GOP nominee to even get a vote on the floor of the Senate - and that message should and must be used to oust Joe Manchin - no matter how “independent” he tries to cast himself to be.
Oh! I didn’t get it, lol.
Weekend at Ruthie’s!
There’s no “invoking” to be done. That was already done with Gorsuch so that is already the standing policy on how a nominee would be handled.
Yay!
exactly- Dems will hold up any election of judge till the next election claimign that ‘the people must decide who they want on the SC via a new election’ the way we did to them with gorsuch- Don’t know if they will be able to hold out for 3 more years, or two or whatever, but they sure are going to try-
I doubted he was going to retire just yet when I saw the cases that were possibly coming up. But once those are past the oral arguments and internal voting, I think he’ll be ready to leave.
She really has no say in the matter... if almighty God wants someone else in that seat.
He has His ways. Best to fear God, and keep His Commandments, for that is the duty of Man.
[[Trump won anyhow but it shouldn’t have been as close as it was. ]]
Especially considering she was a felon and slept through benghazi- no way should she have gotten as many votes as she did- pretty sad that our country gave her as many votes as she did get
Fake news. A Dem will never retire.
not sure if i’d care, if it were Roberts stepping down due to some illness
I’ll bank on her health taking her out. If she’s falling asleep on the bench, she can’t go on much longer. She might want to spite Trump, but the body only goes so long. On the other hand, she probably can lie in a hospital bed with tubes attached and still keep her seat, even if she knows nothing about it. They REALLY need a provision for getting them out for incapacitation. It’s absurd that they keep the job regardless of their physical or mental condition.
Doesn’t Sonya Sotomayor have type 1 diabetes, contracted as a child?
Pres Trump could be the one to replace all 4 of them. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the teeth to the Dems.
Assuming, of course, he didn’t give in to nominating a few ‘moderates’ to appease the Dems as too many previous Repub presidents have done.
