He really has some gaps—and the biggest gap is probably in his sense of humor.
It may relate to his mother. Almost all her ‘jokes’ had a harsh barb in them.
Qx all his school years, BA program, 4 years in the Navy—he usually had to have folks explain jokes to him. He just didn’t get them. And sometimes even after they explained the joke, he still didn’t get it.
And when he’d try to tell a joke, folks would not get his jokes—they’d look at him funny like he was speaking Swahili.
There’s some other hard to describe, hard to articulate gaps in his social skills. He’s often misjudged how well other people understood him and what he was saying.
