Jeff Bezos just donated $33 million to 'dreamers' Jeff Bezos just donated $33 million to 'dreamers' 41 Mins Ago | 00:41 Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos donated $33 million in college scholarships for "dreamers" — childhood undocumented immigrants granted stay in the country under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

TheDream.Us, a nonprofit working toward college access for undocumented immigrants, said the donation from Bezos and his wife MacKenzie is the largest in the organization's history and will fund 1,000 scholarships.

"My dad came to the U.S. when he was 16 as part of Operation Pedro Pan," Bezos said in a statement. "He landed in this country alone and unable to speak English. With a lot of grit and determination – and the help of some remarkable organizations in Delaware – my dad became an outstanding citizen, and he continues to give back to the country that he feels blessed him in so many ways."

Can they use the scholarships when they go back home?

Is it legal to fund illegal immigrants?

“Awwww. Isn’t Jeff a nice guy?”

At his net worth, it’s the equivalent of an average American donating a sawbuck.

Needless to say, I was being sarcastic. :-)

That’s .0003% of his net worth, plus he gets an automatic 30% deduction on his income taxes for being a scholarship donor and can carry the remaining carryover for up to five years, if there is any.

I’m not knocking his charity, except to say that it sends more of an anti-American message than anything. That amount of money means nothing to him.

As of June 19, 2016, Bezos owned 83.9 million shares of Amazon stock.

I think he has sold a small amount since then. Let’s say he still owns 80 MM shs.

I don’t begrudge him his wealth and he can do with it what he wants, and he does.

The stock is up $25 today. Which is $2 billion.

This would be like an ordinary person donating a penny and asking for .982 cents in change.

$33 million represents a 1.7 cent movement in the price of his shares, AMZN doesn’t even trade like that; it usually has a 30-50 cent spread.

Thank you for referencing that article bitt. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

Beware that “higher education” has two, mutually exclusive contexts.

On one hand, college is traditionally regarded as a reward for continued self-improvement.

On the other hand, college is where people are conditioned to let other people do their thinking for them.

Isn’t Bezos committing a crime by subsidizing law breakers?

Jeff Bezos just donated $33 million to 'dreamers' ...

I take exception to those who support illegal aliens. Mr. Bezos can do what he legally wants with his money. But would have been more appropriate if he donated that sum for "workers", those who have legitimately earned a helping hand.

Either that or father didn’t teach him good enough about the evils of communism. Jeff seems to enjoy the big brother mentality and all the evil & power that comes with it.

So all scholarships go to childten of illegal immigrants who are themselves not citizens , but not to the children and grandchildren of the U.S. Citizens circa 1960 who made it possible for his father to flourish hereand and paid for it?

Bezos is an American hating ingrate.

Yeah. I hope my nephews benefit from Bezos’ generosity. They have dreams. Of course, they’re legally in America, so... guess no.

This goes to reinforce the Democrat mantra that tax cuts are spent by some for irrational purposes. Responsible businessmen reinvest in the business, liberals throw it dwon the.....rat hole.

But nothing for the children of Americans who are the ones that helped make his company.

And people wonder why I don't do business with Amazon any more.
