You would think that with President Donald Trump's approval ratings at historic lows for a first-year president, the candidate he beat in the 2016 election might see a similar improvement in their popularity numbers -- a sort-of buyer's remorse bump.
That has not been the case with Hillary Clinton. In fact, the opposite has been true.
Hillary Clinton's approval dipped to 36% in a December Gallup poll. Her unfavorable ratings -- at 61% -- also marked a new high (or low) for Clinton.
Like with all poll findings, it's impossible to pinpoint a single reason that explains it. But, here are 4 theories that might explain Clinton's poll problems.
1. The 2016 race has never really ended
On Monday, President Trump saw fit to mention his 2016 victory while laying out his national security strategy for the country. Trump talks about his "electoral landslide" on an, at least, weekly basis -- ensuring that people never forget about what all sides agree was an incredibly nasty campaign.
2. Clinton isn't sorry
The publicity tour around Clinton's memoir of the campaign -- "What Happened?" -- had a very clear message from Clinton: Yes, I lost. But, it's wasn't entirely (or even close to entirely) my fault.
3. She is the last Republican boogeyman
For years and years -- long before Clinton ran for president in 2008 and 2016 -- she was one of a handful of Democrats that all Republicans a) knew and b) hated.
4. We're still too close to it all
It's been a year and a few days since Clinton lost one of the most knockdown, drag-out presidential races ever. It might simply be too soon to expect Clinton's numbers to begin the long path toward popularity.

She is an unlikeable shrew who has people killed.
Not surprising she is not popular.
Hillary just plain sucks. She is a lying disingenuous pig and it is obvious to people who have watched her wretched behavior for years.
God bless the person who filmed that.
She held something like 3 campaigns to closed forums the whole month of October 2016. That is greatly why she lost. People saw her trying to coast to the presidency on her laurels.
She ran basically the same campaign BJ ran in 1992, even using rehashed speeches and issues.
She ran against basically against every position she ran on in her 2000 Senate campaign.
And the list goes on and on and on ...
The Daily Mail UK ran an article about who/what she blamed for her loss and the list was something like 77 reasons and counting.
3. She is the last Republican boogeyman
Hahahah, FAKE news CNN must be the biggest collection of back slapping, pseudo-intellectual IDIOTS ever in history.
Today, I took a look at Rasmussen’s numbers concerning Trump and found that they have him at minus 16% with Strongly Approve at 29% and Strongly Disapprove at 45% and with Total Approve at 44% and Total Disapprove at 54%.
Obama’s numbers at this time in 2009 were as follows:
Total Approval Index: -15%, with Strongly Approve at 26% and Strongly Disapprove at 41% and with Total Approve at 46% and Total Disapprove at 53%.
Therefore, almost identical numbers for Public Enemy Number 1 for the Media Party compared to the one who could do no wrong whatsoever in their eyes. As a further note, Ras has those surveyed at 35% seeing the country heading in the right direction now, compared to only 29% at this time in 2009.
What a “pant load” .... what Cillizza wrote & Crooked herself.
The 1980s, the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s...
What four more reasons do we need?
The truth is that the democrats have finally realized she no longer holds dictatorial powers in the party, and they have recognized what kind of a ‘person’ she is long, long ago.
As for the people - perhaps some are awakening from their fantasy bubbles. One can hope.
>> she was one of a handful of Democrats that all Republicans a) knew and b) hated.<<
fauxahantis is picking up that mantle.
I can’t get enough of that porn trailer!
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Hillary and Bill were a team. He was the front man -- the slick one with the people skills. She was the bossy, annoying, unlikeable one behind the scenes whose function may have been to keep Bill in line. She didn't have any business running on her own, especially since she didn't relish doing any of the things candidates have to do.
Nice overbite there Hagatha.
