Chris Matthews, EIB Guest Host?
Mar 14, 2008
RUSH: This is Dean in Beulah, Iowa. Am I pronouncing that right?
CALLER: Yes, you are.
RUSH: Thank you, sir. Welcome to the program.
CALLER: Thank you. Mega dittos, Rush. Hey, I was just wondering, Ive been a fan of the show for a long time, and has Chris Matthews ever guest hosted your show?
RUSH: Yes, he has.
CALLER: And why did you do that.
RUSH: Well, you know, there was a time that Help me out on this, Snerdley. It was the mid-nineties, right?
CALLER: Yeah, at least that long ago. Its been a long time, way before he ever came out as being more liberal. You know, for a time there he was almost conservative.
RUSH: Well, in part. But when we put him on as a guest host we knew that he wasnt full-fledged conservative, but we did it just as a change of pace.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: But back then, he and I had a good relationship. I was going on his show, and he was calling in to my show, and we had a good relationship back then, but I stopped being invited to go on his show. Maybe its I stopped accepting invitations. I dont know which. But clearly now, that network now is the house organ for the Democrat National Committee.
CALLER: Yeah. I think I remember that show he was on, and it was pretty good, if I remember right, but (laughs).
RUSH: I didnt hear it. I never listen when Im not here, obviously. If I could listen, I would be here to do the show. So I didnt hear it. Im trying to remember. My memory is, we had some people complain.

I remember that show and Matthews wasn’t bad.
I remember. I listened to the show.
IIRC, that’s when “Hardball” was just beginning and it was supposed that at last we would have a media outlet that would ask the tough questions and demand answers from (mostly Dem) politicians.
Spittin’ Chrissy’s show was all USA....RED, WHITE, and BLUE!! He SEEMED like he LIKED America!! NO MORE!!
Hey, there was a time where a lot of people here on FR LOVED Chrissie Fit for his attacks on BJ Clinton.
He wasn't getting tingles down his legs in those days.
The WORST were Karl Rove and Ellen Morphonious.
Agreed.
A number of folks who got shows during the Clinton years, and were solid back then, fell into the Leftist tank since then.
It’s been a sad thing to watch folks who used to not be too bad, turn into full on propagandists hating our nation.
It was the mid/late 90s. About 3-5 times. During the Clinton years, before Bush.
I remember, could not believe my ears—and he was pretty good, not that I want to admit it. One of the best was Jason Lewis, now a member of congress. He could have his own show, he is that good. Weak ones include the soporific Mark Davis, the never trumper from red state— Eric Erickson, and a few others I don’t care about.
Karl Rove ain’t worth spit as far as I am concerned.
Well that was then. Now he is the ultimate Kool Ade drinker. Whatever happened to his wife running for Congress last year?
He said, Im not decided between Bush and Gore! Even back then, that was a good laugh.
He was a Tim Russert wannabe at first. Then by 2004, he was far left.
Mark Davis is/was a Dallas guy.
My favorite besides Steyn is Mark Belling from Miwaukee.
Like some others have said the show wasn't bad and he was a Tim Russert wannabe. Laura Ingraham was also on in the afternoons and MSNBC was my channel back then between college classes.
One of his newer guest hosts is Ken Matthews from Harrisburg, PA. I live at the edge of their broadcast area and listen to his daily show frequently. Great host.
Matthews was at one time reasonable, not an insane progressive leftard...
I watched his show regularly...
He used to have great guest’s when he wasnt spitting on them...
My favorite guest host for Rush was Dr. Walter Williams. He was great!
