A New York Doctor was found murdered shortly after reporting a “breakthrough” discovery in the cure for cancer.
Dr. Miguel Crespo’s body was found in the bathroom of the Weill Cornell Medical Center on the Upper East Side where he worked, after having gone missing for several hours.
Police initially thought that Dr. Crespo had committed suicide by drug overdose after they found vomit next to his body and “foaming at his mouth.”
However, close friends and family say his death is suspicious, noting that Dr. Crespo had just made an exciting discovery in the field of cancer research and was unlikely to want to end his life at this pivotal stage in his career.
Crespo earned his doctoral degree at the Complutense University of Madrid and was researching a cure for colon cancer at the hospital.
Starting his research in 2011 in the UES stem cell lab, Dr. Crespo’s team had recently made a “breakthrough” discovery, according to one of the hospital’s staff;
“He was working late almost every night and seemed really excited.”He said he had made an amazing breakthrough.”
The hospital’s spokeswoman, Sarah Smith, told the New York Daily News:
“Weill Cornell Medicine is saddened by the death of our colleague Miguel Crespo, Ph.D.”
“We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
Daily Mail reports: Away from the hospital, Crespo was a part-time photographer and graphic designer.
On his website, his mission statement reads: ‘Throughout my life, I have relentlessly strived to capture the beauty in things I always felt the world has yet to discover – windows, shadows, reflections, the magic in the velvety light that projects on our eyes,’ he wrote on his photo design website.
‘I have always been mesmerized by the compassion, the emotion, and the meaning somebody’s look can convey and inspire.’
One of his neighbors Xoey Lee, 38, told NYDN he did not appear seem ill and said: ‘He’s always polite. He always says, “Hi”.’

While I share your understandable cynicism about those in high offices that seem to magically go from penniless to millionaires, as a former mayor and current city administrator I do take exception to the blanket statement that all people in government are in it to “prosper.” Granted, every job I had (most of which in the private sector) I set out to “prosper” in as much as I wanted to earn enough to provide for my family.
That said, my reason for being in government is that if conservatives just sit off to the side and cluck their tongues at how liberal government is but are unwilling to take on the challenge of applying conservative principles inside public entities, then we have indeed lost. If I’m not here pushing for greater transparency, lean budgets devoid of peace fountains or crazy social engineering experiments then some some run of the mill liberal would be in this chair doing exactly the opposite. A conservative city administrator is just beneath the level of leprechaun status in this universe - but there are a few of us trying to apply & demonstrate conservative principles & common sense on a day to day basis; and to seek to mentor other staff (and the public) in such lines of thinking.
For what it is worth, I’ve found it true that conservatives are the only ones that shoot their own wounded. I get criticism for “not being conservative enough” from fellow conservatives while at the same time because I refuse to advocate for dumping tax dollars on every silly liberal idea I’m a “nazi” in the eyes of liberals because I say no to such stuff. Liberal city administrators have a built in cheering squad with unions and democrats and rarely have to fight battles on two fronts. Getting lumped in with blanket statements about all in government being corrupt gets wearisome after a while.
Don't forget the LIBERAL MEDIA is their biggest cheering squad.

Add in an underdog lawyer and John Grisham could beat DeMille to the punch. James Patterson’s ghost writer is already typing away on his keyboard. He will have a paperback version in the supermarket by Christmas.

I'm a big fan of when ANY public official, right down to the guy leaning on a shovel, gets caught with his hand in the Public Cookie Jar, he and HIS WHOLE FAMILY gets torched, in front of the court house at high noon, for the amusement of the adults and the education of the kiddies.
We would either have more honest public servants or more clever thieves. Either would be an improvement.

No, here at FR, it's much better to wrap yourself in foil and claim that "Big Pharma" killed this guy simply to protect the profits that come from current therapies that only treat the symptoms rather than curing the disease. Everyone knows that curing disease doesn't generate profits. Just look at the failure of drugs like Sovaldi, Harvoni and Gleevec. Smart people know that there is no profit in cures. Why would an industry responsible for killing millions every year want to find cures? Just ask these conspiracy theorists about their successes using herbs, chelation therapy and colloidal silver.
You know you finally figured me out. I live to work long hours, weekends and holidays for less than lawyers and plumbers make just so i can prolong and profit from misery and suffering. These days, the necessary network is MUCH broader, including all the technicians who ran the instruments and made the various measurements of results. Nowadays, chemical and biological analysis is so complex that very few research physicians are capable of running their own equipment.
You're trying to deflect. The military isn't an elective office. That dog won't hunt. Since when does the Constitution mandate scientific research? Climate change? Sexing mosquitoes? Any of the thousands of no show jobs or research programs that suggest that the Sun rises in the East, but it needs more study? Remember Proxmire's Golden Fleece Awards? I do.
In Chicago, if your alderman gets you a city or county job, you are expected to kick back a portion of your income to him, as he does to those above him. That's the way the REAL world, this one, works. If you didn't know this, perhaps YOUR world view is a little muddled.
You seemed to have missed the mark. It is the bean counters and hired thugs who work for Big Pharma who are the bad guys, not the doctors and researchers working to find a cure who are the good guys. This Dr was one of the good guys.
I was not questioning healthcare workers, physicians, or researchers. I was questioning the establishment. If you do not have questions about the establishment and their utter ruthlessness perhaps you are in the wrong place.

The American Cancer Society will not allow anyone to interfere with their very lucrative gravy train. I would not doubt that someone high up put out the contract.
Accountants and hired thugs? Good grief, what a bunch of babbling nonsense. Why is it some people who call themselves conservative are always the first to blame industry? Clearly, you have no idea what industry has to overcome from government to deliver the silver bullets that save and improve human life. Complex diseases often have complex causes, and the solutions are always unsatisfactory to a small group of chronic malcontents.
In all fairness to those who were suspicious or skeptical; that’s kinda what we do here on FR and the article was written in such as way as to point to the possibility a pharma company or some other person or entity had an interest in making sure such a cure never went to market.
Can’t really blame folks for looking where they were lead. Hey! Our opposition is normally the left. We know how underhanded and devious they can be so we are always looking for ulterior motives. We’re practically trained to be suspicious and skeptical now. :)
I’m reminded of that new show, Wisdom of the Crowd, where they use the general public to find answers because when we all put in our opinions; the truth organically emerges at some point. I find it ironic the lead actor, Piven, was also accused of sexual harassment so the network canceled the show because of it.
I also wonder if the backlash of this tsunami of sexual harassment claims isn’t going to come back and bite us all on the butt of political correctness to the point men and women will be afraid to talk to one another unless chaperoned. Isn’t that what they do in Islamic countries?
Not the first time that this has happened.
