In a virtuous society — that is, one whose political, social and economic institutions allow all of its members to flourish — the answer to both questions is the same. Will we be such a virtuous society?

It is hard to flourish when you are shot down in cold blood by a murdering illegal alien. Did the the good archbishop meet with the Kate Steinle family? Did he console the father who had his daughter die in his arms? Or is he only concerned with filling his pews with bodies regardless of their immigration status? Get back to your pedophile priest and let us secure our borders.

There are better than three billion poor people in the world. Sorry, my compassion just isn’t that big.

What kind of society are we?

I hope that we are a society that honors the rule of law.

I worry that we are a society of emotional women who masquerade as men and who just do whatever "feels" right and makes them feel better than others.

A virtuous society wouldn’t murder 1.5 million unborn babies a year, so I think we already have the answer to the question.

We either have the rule of law or we don’t.

"... that is, one whose political, social and economic institutions allow all of its members to flourish ... "

Keyword: members.

And if everyone is a member, then no one is a member.

If everyone is a member, there is no society to speak of, because nothing defines it.

The Book of Genesis does not record an answer to Cain’s question when God confronts him after Cain’s act of fratricide. It leaves the reader to decide in the reader’s own conscience.

Yes, it does record an answer. God repaid Cain, and his offspring. Genesis 7:23

He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

And that’s the name of that tune.

A virtuous society wouldn’t use iphones made with child labor.

A virtuous society wouldn’t demand the deaths of thousands by forbidding them to use coal to provide heat and light.

A virtuous society wouldn’t block GMO efforts to increase crop yields to feed the hungry.

But then I’m not as smart or introspective as this chronicle writer from San Francisco.

The kind afflicted with fatal liberality?

I’m my brothers keeper or helper to the extent he can’t help or support himself, such as genuine disabilities. Beyond this, he needs to take responsibility

The illegal invaders are not part of our society.

Virtuous or not.

” Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Book of Genesis does not record an answer to Cain’s question when God confronts him after Cain’s act of fratricide. It leaves the reader to decide in the reader’s own conscience.

It does not leave the reader to decide their own conscience regarding Cain’s statement.

Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Is an arrogant and deceitful deflection to a question to hide his crime

Further, we do not have a moral obligation to every single person who comes to this country much less to the rest of the world as their caretakers.

And now for the backstory:
ICE officials placed both men in expedited deportation proceedings without a court hearing — known formally as “reinstatement” — because they each had old removal orders issued more than a decade ago after being caught attempting to cross the border illegally.

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2017/05/15/exclusive-undocumented-worker-didnt-know-he-was-going-to-work-at-air-force-base/

They have been deported before and were arrested by ICE Fugitive Task Force.

Am I my brother’s keeper?

My brother’s keeper? Yeah, maybe. My cousin’s keeper? Probably not so much. My third cousin twice removed’s barber’s ex-wife’s auto mechanic who snuck in from Guadalajara so he could peddle fentanyl to junior high kids? Probably not at all.

The United States is *already* such a society, far more so than any society in the past.

The left always compares the USA to some cloud cuckoo fantasy utopia.

The only sane comparison is to other existing polities.

LOL There is no freedom without Virtue. (Socrates/Founders)

Funny how this Archbishop is living in the pit of Sodom and Gomorrah and excrement and he has an issue with people enforcing the Rule of Law with even our generous immigration laws, which are the best and most just in the World-—but he is fine with sodomy and baby-killing and theft (welfare and slavery) and talks about “Virtue”. What a joke!!!

This champion of virtue needs to understand that virtue formation in little children starts with the promotion of the Truth (God) and that normalizing baby-killing and the evil acts of sodomy are both demonic and satanism and will destroy virtue formation in any children exposed to those vile practices of pagans and satanists (other religions, btw).

The least of his problems are families who should go back to help their own countries prosper, so they can help make it a better place instead of an evil hell-hole which corrupts and destroys the people who remain.

Yes we are our brothers keeper.

And no that does not mean we are supposed to have open borders.

God gives extensive law about borders, trespassing, and landmarks in His word. It is never implied that these are to be disrespected. Rather He forbids them being disrespected.

A society based on laws. A society without laws is doomed. Let them come back the legal way. That is the only way they can truly be productive citizens. Until then they must go.

I’ll take the real Don Corleone over this clown’s wimpering.

I don’t know whether Mejia should be deported or not and I’m not a big fan of breaking up families. However he did violate both civil and criminal laws by his actions. It is up to a court to take everything into consideration.

If the Archbishop were as concerned with the murdered and injured victims of illegal immigrants as he is with this man, then I would cut his some slack.

Save your sermon for someone who mindlessly cares, Archie.

Hugo Mejia has a nice jacket in the picture.

I wonder if he would give it to the next homeless person he meets... then the next jacket to the next homeless person - on and on until he has nothing.

I mean shouldn’t we all go stupid together?
