The pile on against Roy Moore has been swift and fierce. But is it right? I ask because few want to admit what is definitely true: the timing is awfully politically convenient and the behavior described doesn't fit anything we know about him. The swiftest pile on over Roy Moore has come not from Democrats, but from a bunch of Republicans who have hated his guts for years. And now it's pay back time. Look, I know I'm going to get set on fire for this piece, but I think it needs to be said.
If the allegations are true, Roy Moore needs to step aside. But how do we know? I have to tell you that this seems like a political miracle for the Democrats with a most convenient timing and most convenient pile on. To listen to most, if Roy Moore is guilty he needs to step aside and if he is innocent he needs to step aside and clear his name. Moore's opponents have constructed the argument in such a way that the only way forward is for him to get out of the race. That's awfully convenient for a lot of people who hate him for political reasons.
Part of my character disposition is that when I see the whole herd running in one direction I tend to stop and wonder if I really should and I have reached that point with Roy Moore. I actually reached it a couple of days ago and it has taken me this long to decide it is worth saying anything given the undoubted blowback from a bunch of people whose opinions I really don't care about (and a few whose opinions I do) when it gets right down to it. I think it is.

The GOPe DON’T WANT HIM! He’s too pro Trump. I wish there was a way to get rid of Mitch O’Connell. Can’t we find some 20 yr old from KY to claim he fondled her/him/confused 5 years ago? It only takes $$$. Who knows maybe many would do it for free just to rid the Congress of him.
But are they really opponents? Or are they on the same side?
Lets postulate for the sake of argument that all the allegations are true
So what? It was thirty eight years ago. The man is married thirty plus years. There has been not a peep of anything else about him.
This is just a ridiculous smear that has nothing to do with anything
“Never run with the herd” is always good advice.
This smear campaign has galvanized white voters in Alabama who don’t like being scolded by outsiders.
Judge Moore will win and then he will dare McTurtle to expel him.
IF. If that occurred, it would be at least borderline illegal. But there is no credible evidence beyond her memory, and one detail has already been contradicted by her mom.
LIEberals LIE!
Washington Compost is owned by a LIEberal!
LIEberals LIE!
Elect Judge Moore to the US Senate!
The story is not likely to be true, as the WaPo knows
Paul Bunyan didn’t have this many stories about him.

What is the reputation for truth and veracity of the woman waiting 38 years to make the allegations?
If this works against Roy, then the same claims will be fabricated against every other Republican to run for national office.
The Democrats did the same thing to Tom Delay, false charges that knocked him out of the Majority Leader position.
Erick Erickson is the original NeverTrumper who disinvited Donald from the Red State Gathering because he insulted Megyn Kelley. There isn’t an article he could write that could ever get me to pay attention to him again.
“What is the reputation for truth and veracity of the woman waiting 38 years to make the allegations?”
She at least should be interviewed publicly.
"A" - This new girl said she was in high school (age 15 or 16)and he basically molested her in his car.
"B" - 1, 2 or 3 years later, he wrote a nice little note in her yearbook.
Now if "A" happened, no way would "B" happen.
Honey....you're a liar.
First I completely agree that the timing is not a coincidence. WaPo probably had this in the can for months and deliberately waited until not just after the primary but also the point of no return where he can’t be replaced on the ballot. So yeah this is dirty politics.
All of which said, I am not sure the reports are not true. I am not prepared to dismiss them out of hand because of the source. It’s not just the women making the accusations, but the large number of corroborating witnesses. And to be fair and honest, I have never cared for Moore. He is a wingnut who has thumbed his nose at the Constitution and the rule of law in the name of his religious beliefs a few too many times for my taste. I think he is a not very deeply closeted Dominionist.
But we are where we are and it’s pretty clear the libs smell blood and a possible Senate seat in of all places, Alabama. I don’t live there but if I did I’d probably hold my nose and vote for the wingnut with the expectation that this would be thoroughly investigated and if true he would then be expelled from the Senate and the Governor could then fill the seat with someone who reflects the state’s political leanings. But I’d have to wear gloves when I filled out a ballot for that man.
It has to do with the GOPe not wanting him in their club because they know he'll be another Ted Cruz at best.
It's not unlike how they treated allegations against Trump.
The troublesome aspect of the all!edged behavior was that it was acceptable in some circles in the south at that time period in a Tennessee Williamsesque sort of way. I pray for Moore's vindication and hope the Judge has not rationalized his innocence against the standards of the time.
