SAN FRANCISCO -- A plan to split California into three separate states has cleared its first hurdle. Supporters are set to begin collecting signatures to qualify for next year's ballot.
"Creating three new governments three new legislatures, three new governors and then having to disrupt what we have as a state all our prison systems, our higher education systems," said political analyst Steven Maviglio. "I think diversity is what makes California great and this would actually ruin it."
If the measure were to make it on the ballot and be approved by voters it would also still need permission from Congress.

...and other states (i.e., Congress) won’t agree to splitting CA into three liberal states. DOA, indeed. Why would they even float something so stupid? Maybe to show that splitting up is not tenable and therefore CA must secede?
Northern California would be deep, dark blue. California would be a solid blue only because of LA County. Southern California would be a red leaning state
Add to that the new talk of Puerto Rico statehood and that makes 6 Rat Senators.
What difference would it make?
Each separate area includes major urban centers.
Looks like the same old thing only split three ways with a guarantee of even more red tape than ever.
Better idea: secede from the US, start a war, we kick their asses, deport all their illegals, and take away the voting rights of anyone involved in the insurrection for 20 or 30 years.
I’d make the part called California stretch further up the coast to include counties all around SF Bay, but then I think I’d be OK with this division. Two red states of beautiful country and the influence of the radicals constrained to their strongholds along the coast seems like a net win.
It would kinda suck for me however. I live in the last city in LA County (Diamond Bar) before crossing into Orange County and San Bernardino counties which would be in red Southern California.
Maybe Southern California could annex eastern LA county where I live. Diamond Bar, La Verne, Walnut, San Dimas, these are pretty conservative communities still.

I'd rather give Puerto Rico complete independence. Bribe each Puerto Rican with some cash to vote that way, then once they're independent cutoff the welfare.

I don’t know. Southern California is comprised of counties that typical vote Republican......They other two states are certainly blue.
We DO NOT want Sacramento and the SF Bay Area included within our beloved State of Jefferson. That would dilute everything we have so far fought for.

They can split into 3 states as far as I’m concerned....AS LONG AS THEY JOINTLY ELECT AND HAVE TWO, AND ONLY TWO, SENATORS TOTAL BETWEEN THEM.
What hurdles do states 58 and 59 have to clear?
Four more Lib Left coast Senators? Just say no.
They should combine the 3 west coast states and reduce the total number of Senators to 2 from 6.
Much better plan.
