The revelation that Fox News host Bill OReilly paid $32 million to a network employee to settle a sexual harassment accusation, at least his six sexual harassment settlement in the past decade totaling $45 million, is stunning news, especially since Fox then rehired OReilly with a four-year extension paying $25 million a year. The OReilly scandal, coming a few months after Fox fired its News chairman Roger Ailes for his serial sexual harassment of Fox employees, and amidst the firestorm surrounding the wave of public accusations of sexual harassment against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, has focused public attention on the ability of wealthy and powerful people to commit repeated acts of sexual harassment for decades with impunity.

Tell that to the priests, too.
Having said that, I don't know why anyone would feel compelled to make these payoffs illegal. It sounds like it's all just a game that large corporations like Fox are willing to play.
Hey, the church has plenty of money. I know. Disgusting. May make the ‘fondlewood’ thing look tame. It’s been tried and quietly swept under the rug again and again.
So you disapprove of private contracts between individuals and want them outlawed?
he said she said ... he pays...
cheaper for a hit
Yes. LOL! Kidding. Even though they are supposedly “private”, nothing is really private anymore. Witness White House info that’s supposed to remain within certain circles. I understand but I believe the point is that being able to buy your way out of a possible criminal act is somehow wrong.
Youd think these jerks would just support a bevy of escorts and sugar babies rather than bring their horniness and wallets to work
blackmail should be illegal too, wait what?
I believe it is already illegal to bribe anyone not to report a crime.
We must ne in our last days when fidiots like Gershmann come up with this nonsense.
Shouldn’t the alleged victim have a say in it?
If Michael Jackson could buy his way out of charges....
Let’s make public all the credit, arrest and divorce records of the leftists at Hot Air.
They did. Pay me enough and I’ll stay quiet.
Basically $32 million would be the right number for rape by a very rich guy, with a pretty strong evidentiary case, and a lot of jail time hanging in the balance.
Being a woman in this position, keeping your mouth shut to reap the career advancements leaving the next young woman to be a victim, should be illegal too.
Not so sure about that. Reporting a couple one is voluntary
One a case is at trial it is illegal to tamper with a witness...threats,money,eyc
I don’t know details of the O’Reilly accusations. I can see where the guy could be a buthole just based on some of his condescending and arrogant mannerisms and demeanor.
That said, I have seen false accusations and personally been accused of sexual harassment falsely (in college). So I am sometimes suspicious of the accusations. I always try to remain objective. And CHARACTER of the accuser is a factor (as well as the accused).
For example:
In college, one of my jobs was at a particular fast food joint in the midst of a large university. I worked with all college students and I was the only male. I was also the only non-smoker on the staff, apparently. I got all the dirty jobs (assigned by manager). And I complied dutifully because I’m wired that way. Trash duty, cleaning fryers, dumping grease, mopping floors, stocking, etc. There were always 4 to 5 other females working with me. And there was no lack of drama, turmoil and gossip. There was one girl that relentlessly talked about sex. There was another that relentlessly talked about her period (and other really gross stuff) graphically. At all times, at least two of them were mad at each other and wanted to gossip about the other. The characters rotated day to day. The girl that talked about sex always taunted, teased and flirted with the girl that always talked about her periods. And I had finally had enough. I had told them that I didn’t want to hear about graphic and/or certain gross sexual exploits. And I had told the manager about it and demanded my own “smoke breaks” (I didn’t smoke). Finally, one day, I told the two gross girls I thought they were secretly lesbians and should get together so they would have a more appropriate time and place to share their passions. One of them “reported me” for sexual harassment.
The manager asked me if I said it. I said yes, I did. She explained that she did not think it was harassment and knew what all had been going on, but she had to do a report. There would be no repercussions for me. I quit then and there. It was minimum wage!
