Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday declared a state of emergency ahead of a planned appearance by white nationalist Richard Spencer at University of Florida.
Scott made the designation for Alachua County, where the school is located, upon request by Sheriff Sadie Darnell.
Spencer, designated a white nationalist by the Southern Poverty Law Center and head of the white nationalist think tank National Policy Institute, was scheduled to speak Thursday in Gainesville.
"We live in a country where everyone has the right to voice their opinion, however, we have zero tolerance for violence and public safety is always our number one priority," Scott said in a statement. "I have been in constant contact with Sheriff Darnell who has requested this executive order to ensure that county and local law enforcement have every needed resource. This executive order is an additional step to ensure that the University of Florida and the entire community is prepared so everyone can stay safe."
In August, UF rejected a request by Spencer to rent space on its grounds to host an event in September, citing possible violence.
"I find the racist rhetoric of Richard Spencer and white nationalism repugnant and counter to everything the university and this nation stands for," UF President Kent Fuchs said at the time.
Wasn't there a post earlier by a Freeper who knew a guy named "Fuchs"?

Yet, he will attack no one that night. The violence, mayhem, fire, property damage, and terrorism will all come from his opponents.
So, is this Spencer a KKK style moron, or is he just a “whitey ain’t all bad” kind’a guy being painted that way by the racists at SPLC for defending us?
Don’t know the players here, but on the surface this sounds like a false flag.
What recent event took place where folks dressed up in hoods, brought clubs, assaulted people, destroyed property, and tried to burned a building down?
That would be an event where the Left acted out governor, sheriff.
Could you two be more clueless?
Why is this leftist idiot causing an emergency?
There is no right-wing. There is no alt-right. There isn't even a "right." It is Communists, Socialists, and Fascists on the Left, and freedom-loving, nation-loving people who's views have to be demonized and called "the far right" simply because it's impeding the takeover of the Left. That's it.
He loves abortion and gay marriage, and hates Christians.
If the Southern “Poverty” “Law” Center is involved, it most likely is.
Richard Spencer is like Al Sharpton....an irrelevant racist kook elevated to the status of an identity politics leader by the Leftist media.
He is not BLM, so he is dangerous! Or something like that...
it’s a German name I’ve heard before———what’s the big deal?
.
“UF President Kent Fuchs”

“Fuchs” is actually Kent’s middle name, the last name is “Upp”.

Probably not, lol.
These days, when I hear the words “stay safe”, it makes me want to throw up.
Scott is a squish. Last election, I would not vote for him because he did nothing to arrest, fire, or at least reign in the female (forget her name) State Attorney who committed crimes in the prosecution against George Zimmerman.
Because it sounds like the curse word.
But I don’t think that’s how it’s correctly pronounced. I believe it is FOOOKS
He is unworthy of representing anyone.
Spencer is continually attacked for alleged racism. Hope to see a factual and impartial analysis of what, if anthing, he has done that is racist.
