Civil War reenactors replaying the Battle of Cedar Creek in Virginia on Saturday went ahead with their demonstration despite the group organizing the event receiving a letter threatening "bodily harm" to anyone who participated.
The battlefield was temporarily cleared on Saturday when a "suspicious device" - possibly a pipe bomb - was discovered. The FBI is investigating.
Washington Post:
We wanted to send a message, said Keith MacGregor, 56, from Lebanon, Pa., who was playing the role of a Union infantry captain for the reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek, held not far from here. We wanted to show the U.S. that we arent going to let some terrorist, or some nut, stop the event. I was never prouder of people in our hobby.
Before and after the minute-long U.S.A. chant, the two sides who acted out the battle came together and thanked each other for coming and for staying. The Star-Spangled Banner was played and sung. So was Dixie.

They’re not going to need reenactments much longer if the anarchists keep this up.
There's a reason my tagline is an Orwell quote...
“OMG! They played “Dixie”? Get out the smelling salts and fainting couches someone must have had the vapors”
The night that Lee surrendered, Lincoln gave a short speech at the White House. He then ordered the band to play “Dixie”. It was his favorite song.
I suppose Lincoln will be a target in the future if he hasn’t been already.
Pretty amusing, threatening people who are all carrying rifles (with fixed bayonets), many with sidearms.
Sure, they're all shooting blanks now, but that can change with one reload.
The over reaction to Confederate flags by Nikki Haley in SC is what started this.
Orwell Redenbacher? ;-)
Blanks can kill at close range. Remember some actor offed himself by accident playing with a blank firing pistol several years back.
A statue of Lincoln was defaced in Chicago.
If liberals went after muzzies after 9/11 and Orlando and that office in CA the way liberals have gone after our cultural heritage because some nut was photographed wearing a T-shirt with a Confederate flag then shot up a church, we’d never have to deal with muzzies in the US again. But, we can’t be hurting their feelings now, can we? Plus it’s hate speech even to bring it up.
A lot of us verabalized a while a go that this would be next. Interestingly, regarding re-enactments, all they are doing is an orwellian erasing of history.
Next they’ll want to ban the movie, “Gettysburg” and then the PBS Civil War documentaries.
Children. That is all they are. Ignorant, petulant, children. They get away with only what we let them get away with.
Thought I read that in the UK last year they arrested over 3,000 “subjects” for making offensive remarks on social media. Yeah, sounds right.
Some have canons as well. They are fantastic for dispersing crowds. And they don't fire water.
The American Left’s really gone off the rails these past two years. You think about all their hysteria over Civil War statues or transgender nonsense, all of it is a recent phenomenon with them.
Man. We'd need a 2X12 for this bunch...
But since they moved the flag, it hasn’t killed again. /sarcasm
It's already happening.

I have participated in a number of Cedar Creek reenactments with an outfit from Lebanon, probably the same one this guy is from...a uniquely lovely setting, in the shadow of the Blue Ridge mountains; we generally had a predawn tactical, and I remember how mesmerizing the sound of ‘troops’ rustling through the high grasses was, with the tin cups clinking, and the leathers creaking, and the absence of any other modern sounds...
My great grandfather fought for the union in this battle. Mr. Mercat and I were there 17 years ago. General Sheridan road up on his big black horse and told us the best place to stand. It was awesome!
True. I think it was Bruce Lee's son who did that.
