Vanity: Is the NFL Risking Its Tax-Exempt Status Engaging in Political Activity?
VANITY

Posted on 09/25/2017 4:47:21 PM PDT by TigerClaws

The NFL is now a 'non-profit' corporation. Goodell gets paid $40 million+ a year. The League takes in $9.5 billion. Taxpayers have footed the bill for $7 billion in stadiums to play the games.

Are they risking that non-profit status via political activity?

See the links below for more info:

“In my mind, the NFL doesn’t fit very well [into 501(c)(6) status]” Hackney says. “They do some good things with charity, but the majority of what they do is promote the brand of the NFL and the 32 teams.”

http://www.witf.org/news/2014/10/why-is-the-nfl-a-nonprofit.php

In return for its favored tax-status, a charitable nonprofit promises the federal government that it will not engage in “political campaign activity” and if it does, IRS regulations mandate that the charitable nonprofit will lose its tax-exempt status. This prohibition against political campaign activity (defined as “supporting or opposing a candidate for public office”) is SEPARATE from lobbying or legislative activities, which charitable nonprofits ARE permitted to engage in, although knowing the rules is important, as limitations apply.

Only the little people pay taxes.

Better to focus on End the Fed.

I don’t know whether or not you’ve read the previous responses, but the NFL is no longer a nonprofit organization.

There is no reason, and I mean no reason that one of the biggest businesses in the country should have a non-profit, non tax status. That is just asinine.

70 YEARS RETROACTIVE TAXATION

Pay up for those 70 years.
And you cannot claim some team paid your taxes.

Yeah just saw them after I posted - I still say that as they in government owned stadiums that they’re defacto public entities.

It is past time to end that non-profit status for the NFL.

I'll be happy if fans disappear in droves and the NFL becomes "non-profit" in the literal sense instead of in the legal sense.

Needs to be broken up as it is a big fat monopoly.I used to be a huge fan. Never purposely watching another game in my life. Dead to me.

I saw someone on Fox News today that explained that the military presence at NFL games is paid for from the DoD budget used for marketing/recruitment purposes.

In other words, it’s no different than other advertisers that pay for air time at the games.

...I note that the players broke Jerry Jones. He went out and took a knee (literally) with them.

What crap!

None of the Cowboys have kneeled and JJ hasn’t changed his stance on the matter.

During the anthem tonight, there were no kneelers on either team; Cowboys or Cardinals.

Oh, so it's only during the anthem that counts. Got it.

As an aside, his expresion looks like he's being forced to eat an excrement sandwich. He's going to make Goodell pay for this. In my opinion.

Thank you for the list.

I have been a Nationwide customer for 35 years; my agent is a college classmate.

I’m contacting him tomorrow to say that because of Nationwide’s NFL sponsorship I’m going to shop around.

End the tax exemption for the NFL NOW!

No one forced them to turn professional (key word) sports into a political action committee. They did that on their own.

Leave the NHL and Baseball alone. The NBA is on thin ice. I suspect the heavily black influence in that sport will ruin it as well and maybe that’s a good thing. No, not maybe, definitely. Let them go out of business.

Hah.

I was just wondering how to revoke their corporate charter.

This is the next best thing.

Maybe they can recharter and get tax exempt status in Saudi Arabia, or Iran... or some country under Sharia that Colin Kaepernick and his Mobro galpals don't feel so oppressed in.
