An engineering student from Gwinnett County was fatally shot by a police officer on Georgia Techs campus Saturday night.
The GBI is investigating the incident in which the student, who has been identified by Georgia Tech spokesman Lance Wallace as 21-year-old Scout Schultz of Lilburn, was allegedly barefoot and carrying a knife.
The students legal name was Scott Shultz, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
At least two students shared cellphone video showing the tense interaction between Schultz and Georgia Tech police officers, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Schultz yells at police to shoot and officers respond, Drop the knife! Drop the knife!" more than a dozen times.
Schultz was president of Pride Alliance at Georgia Tech.
The Georgia Tech Progressive Student Alliance said at 4 p.m. they would place flowers and memorabilia on 8th street in front of West Village.

Of course, Tueller is supposed to an “at the low ready” or even “holstered but expectant” test of skill and speed, so a small handful of officers pointing center mass may indeed have had an “unfair” (social justice wise) advantage-but still tactically and lawfully prudent.
Comments regarding the poor state of mental health care in this nation is misleading- nothing is forbidden by social justice types and now even the law, so ‘it” had every right to be off “it’s” rocker. The cops had little choice- either let it go off it’s merry lunatic way and be crucified for either something they “let” happen or be crucified for protecting the campus at large.
What a nation! I want the rule of law and moral suasion back badly! I have children and grand-children and there is no other place to go!
Is the preference for a plural pronoun normal? Sounds weird to me.
I feel terrible for the parents, his friends, and him,
I wonder if we will find out he just had a breakup and was drunk/high. Sure looks like suicide to me
Sick and possessed.
I trust your take on it. What’s your opinion?
Sound advice.
It’s a “they”
Probably right..Tonto calling LR a horses ass. Many moons ago for me.
Sadly, his mother herself calls him "they"--until she forgets, as in the interview: Scout was always a perfectionist, Lynne Schutlz said. They always worried he was going to fail a test but got all As and only two Bs at Tech.

Even worse would have been if the cop had used a taser (non-lethal weapon) against this man with a knife (lethal weapon) and the cop was then killed by him. That would be much worse.
Exactly right.
Please tell me you are kidding. The police have Crisis Intervention Teams and are supposed to be trained for this.
” GT Progressive Student Alliance: **Please remember: Scout uses They/Them pronouns. “
So when the inevitable inquiries begin, does the campus cop get investigated for multiple homicides? I presume he did kill them.
This will be chalked up as violence against ttansgenders and blamed on Pres. Trump.
Agreed. Too many cops are too quick to shoot to kill. Had a case at a Costco near us when a woman serving samples lost it and started waving around a small paring knife. Used to be, a cop would grab her arm: “Drop it lady before someone gets hurt.” Yeah, yeah I know - she could have massacred the entire store... They should have tazed her, talked her down, wounded her in the leg as a last resort. But no, they shot her dead. Ok “cops are always right” FReepers - flame away.
“I am so effing tired of the cops shooting schizophrenics”
I’m tired of schizophrenics killing us
From Retired Fed: While technically a “lethal force” situation, the video screams taser to me, particularly since they had him surrounded (which by the way, kind of made the officer’s kill shot a little problematic, as there was an officer almost directly behind the kid when it occurred, at least it sure looks that way from all the videos). Do police there even have tasers for situations like this? Also, I can clearly hear the kid, but not the police yelling “drop the knife! drop the knife!”....did any of YOU hear that on the video? Were they just chatting with him? I don’t hear it. That troubles me. Don’t like tasers because of the range? Ok, how about a rubber round from a shotgun at about 10 yards, THEN you can taser the shit out of him. SEEN it, works great. Don’t believe this had to happen, and someone should be asking some serious questions of that police department down there. Just saying.
How about the kid just drops the knife?
It’s a legitimate shoot. The suspect kept advancing on the cops with a weapon with multiple warnings. The only thing here that’s very unfortunate is if one of the 4 or so cops had a taser, they could have possibly eliminated the threat without shooting the moron to death.
Exactly right.
