An engineering student from Gwinnett County was fatally shot by a police officer on Georgia Techs campus Saturday night.
The GBI is investigating the incident in which the student, who has been identified by Georgia Tech spokesman Lance Wallace as 21-year-old Scout Schultz of Lilburn, was allegedly barefoot and carrying a knife.
The students legal name was Scott Shultz, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
At least two students shared cellphone video showing the tense interaction between Schultz and Georgia Tech police officers, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Schultz yells at police to shoot and officers respond, Drop the knife! Drop the knife!" more than a dozen times.
Schultz was president of Pride Alliance at Georgia Tech.
The Georgia Tech Progressive Student Alliance said at 4 p.m. they would place flowers and memorabilia on 8th street in front of West Village.

Yes, Barnaby Jones seems to be forgotten in these instances...just wing ‘em if need be.
I would advise you not to say anything more.
I won’t tell anybody.
Wouldn’t it be nice if it was as simple as that. However they seem to arise from other roots as well.
He was having a really bad day and I wonder if he planned to harm himself with the knife. Transgenders have a very high suicide rate. I wish the cops had used a taser... and if he was suicidal, then using a cop to aid him in his attempt is going to scar the cop for life.
However, it sounds like his parents are indeed a source...
NY Daily News:
Scout who planned to attend grad school and hoped to make biomedical devices preferred they/them gender pronouns and identified as bisexual, non-binary and intersex, Lynne Schultz said.
“They seemed fine, friends said they seemed fine I don’t know,” she said.
Scout’s father Bill Schultz wrote about the shooting on Facebook, saying Scout had “a tiny knife.”
“(Police) didn’t have to shoot (Scout) in the heart, but that’s what they did,” Bill Schultz wrote. “Antifa activists beware!”
Scout’s mother declined to discuss details of the shooting and said that she and her husband were considering legal options.
Pride Alliance released a statement Sunday, crediting Schultz as a driving force within the organization.

The origin of the problem is now clear. Thanks!
Extra surprising a special person was an engineer major. We’re usually just very hetero nerds. (Nerds tend to be as “sexy” as the biggest jock.)

It seems the students there have a level head about this incident.
It is sad when a person pushes the police to the point that the police have to use lethal force.
Michael Brown was another incident just like this, even though he was unarmed. He had proven he was a threat and had already tried to take an officer’s gun.
Too bad the media didn’t play it up that way.
Kudos to the the school and it’s students who seem to have judged this about right.
Notice there is nowhere in the article that identifies Scout as a man or woman.
In the environment that police are subjected nowadays you better do what the man says or you are dead meat. Idealists on the left and right can whine how unfair it is all they want but they are not dealing with the scum these police deal with and putting their own lives on the line. Those that threaten the police can look forward to more of this kind of stuff. The root cause is not just bad police ... it is the increasingly violent demented people the police have to deal with.
goddmmit, I am so effing tired of the cops shooting schizophrenics, our mental health system is foking pathetic.
The mental health system in this country is beyond pathetic.
I fought it was spanish- “qui no save” or “one who knows nothing”.

Bing “reactionary gap”.

#5 best Engineering school in the world. Shocking
Reactionary gap indeed.

Police in all other countries in the world find ways to take crazy people with knives into custody all the time without killing them. The quickness to pull the trigger and the idea that police should never take one step back to avoid danger, but should immediacy kill anyone who poses any danger at all is uniquely American and uniquely idiotic.
If they have to follow a guy like this around for a while and move back when he comes towards them until he gets tired or someone is able to throw a net on him or something, so be it.
We have developed a sick ideology in America that police officers are like feudal era nobility who must kill anyone who challengers them to preserve their “honor.” Police are there to protect the public, period. They have no honor or need to kill people who “diss” them. That’s exactly what is going on with all of these unnecessary police killings.
There are numerous videos on the net of police in all kinds of other countries, from the best to the worst, taking people like this down with tackles, non-lethal munitions etc. You notice right away that only American police bring so much tension and anger to these situations. It’s obvious they are searching for any excuse to kill.
Don’t underestimate the danger of this issue blowing up in conservatives faces if we keep taking a statist, anti-civil liberties line on this.
I agree that the mental health system is poorly run. But why do you blame cops for the failure of the mental health system? Because these people aren’t locked up the cops are stuck dealing with them. It’s not their fault, but they are expected to clean up the mess regardless. And then get blamed by people like you. Wonderful catch-22 you have there.
