MONTANA http://www.kare11.com/news/lightning-sparks-40-more-montana-wildfires/470081743
100s of Thousands of acres are or have burned. Thanks to idiot environmentalists policies, mostly.
Is this really any more than normal? Seems like less this year.
Why don’t those idiot “environmentalists” stop the lightning? Do they hate the forests? Are they forest-phobic. Such haters!
The smoke here in Albany, Oregon comes from all directions and has the entire population hacking and coughing. It’s worse than most years with several big fires. One near Sisters seems worse than the others near here. We drove to Roseburg and a fire east of Sutherlin covered I-5 with thick smoke. Terrible and bad for kids and old folks particularly.
A forest that experiences frequent small fires has a lot more grass and forbs for deer, elk, bear, moose, etc. There are more herbivores and predators, biodiversity is high, and they are much more beautiful to walk through.
Yes, it is more than normal.

10 year average is about 33,450 acres burned....we are way above that. Smoke is a big problem also.
Yes, what you said....our problem is the fires get so big because they don’t do small burns...I THINK.
Cascade Locks (in Columbia Gorge) now has a Level 3 evacuation order....which means...you must leave.
Oregon ping
No fireworks or campfires for the Labor Day crowd hereabouts. Restrictions on off-road activities. And it looks like a week to go before the rain begins. Could get interesting.
Grants Pass is surrounded by fires, so no relief with wind. No traffic on the streets, everyone staying indoors.
S/B...NEAR Cascade Locks is under Level 3 Evac order...
Trust me, if you ever want to start a fire fast and easy with just one match, just gather up dry pine needles from the forest floor into a conical pile about a foot high, then 6 to seven pine cones, a layer of small sticks, then 3 to four pieces of wood and you are good to go. Pine needles and cones burn easy, fast and hot.
In the morning if your fire is just down to just a few coals, throw on a couple handfuls of pine needles and 4 to 5 pine cones, and then whatever amount of wood you need/want. Wait until the needles start to smoke then blow hard on them and they will burst into flame just like that.
If it is raining or the forest is really wet then at night you can rake some coals into a small pile surrounded by rocks and then cover it with a good layer of white ash. Then put the rest of the fire out. If the forest is somewhat dry or worse, put the whole fire out.
If your campsite is on pine duff (a thick mat of pine needles) make absolutely certain you scrape away all the needles anywhere near the fire, maybe out to 8 or 9 feet away.
?????????? Environmentalists are the reason there’s no thinning of the forests, thus the excessive fuel for the fires. The Environmentalists have successfully fought to disallow roads to be built, thus hindering firefighting capabilities. The list of stupid Environmentalist actions that cause us all grief at these times goes on, and on.
I’ve lived in Oregon nearly 30 years. I’ve never seen it this bad for so long. The smoke is so thick I can barely see my neighbor’s house.
Our forests have been mismanaged due to environment whackos like our Governor. Companies used to be allowed to go in and take fallen trees, clean up debris and make forest roads. But in the last 15 years they’ve been forbidden. Also just talked yesterday to a newly retired forestland firefighter. He said our Governor has taken away money for firefighters, new equipment etc. Seems they think it’s much more important to pay for all abortions on demand.
If they don’t get the fires under control soon there will be many health problems. No rain in sight.
Oregon Ping!
On the coast, the sun was an orange or red orb all day, the moon orange all night.
Irony of the century that their rewilding causes so much air pollution. But hey, natural or bust, right?
It's a gorgeous weekend here with perfect weather, clear gorgeous blue skies and sun, wonderful people. Why anyone stays in the PNW is beyond me.
We’re choking on smoke here in Yakima.
About 780 square miles of Oregon are on fire now, (was around 500+ last week). Oregon is 98300+ square miles...so it seems small, but it’s concentrated mostly in a smaller area.
