There is nothing more monotonous or less biologically diverse than an overgrown pine forest. The needles kill all the grass and shrubs and there are very few animals that can live off just pine trees. All you get is pine cone seed eaters like chipmunks, birds, and porcupines which eat the new pine bark high up in the trees.

A forest that experiences frequent small fires has a lot more grass and forbs for deer, elk, bear, moose, etc. There are more herbivores and predators, biodiversity is high, and they are much more beautiful to walk through.

Yes, what you said....our problem is the fires get so big because they don’t do small burns...I THINK.
