100s of Thousands of acres are or have burned. Thanks to idiot environmentalists policies, mostly.

Is this really any more than normal? Seems like less this year.

Why don’t those idiot “environmentalists” stop the lightning? Do they hate the forests? Are they forest-phobic. Such haters!

The smoke here in Albany, Oregon comes from all directions and has the entire population hacking and coughing. It’s worse than most years with several big fires. One near Sisters seems worse than the others near here. We drove to Roseburg and a fire east of Sutherlin covered I-5 with thick smoke. Terrible and bad for kids and old folks particularly.

There is nothing more monotonous or less biologically diverse than an overgrown pine forest. The needles kill all the grass and shrubs and there are very few animals that can live off just pine trees. All you get is pine cone seed eaters like chipmunks, birds, and porcupines which eat the new pine bark high up in the trees.

A forest that experiences frequent small fires has a lot more grass and forbs for deer, elk, bear, moose, etc. There are more herbivores and predators, biodiversity is high, and they are much more beautiful to walk through.

Yep, getting a little smoky up here although it isn't as bad as a couple years ago. Wet spring followed by a dry summer and all that stuff that grew so lush is now tinder.

No fireworks or campfires for the Labor Day crowd hereabouts. Restrictions on off-road activities. And it looks like a week to go before the rain begins. Could get interesting.

I’ve lived in Oregon nearly 30 years. I’ve never seen it this bad for so long. The smoke is so thick I can barely see my neighbor’s house.
Our forests have been mismanaged due to environment whackos like our Governor. Companies used to be allowed to go in and take fallen trees, clean up debris and make forest roads. But in the last 15 years they’ve been forbidden. Also just talked yesterday to a newly retired forestland firefighter. He said our Governor has taken away money for firefighters, new equipment etc. Seems they think it’s much more important to pay for all abortions on demand.
If they don’t get the fires under control soon there will be many health problems. No rain in sight.

SOOOOO glad we moved to beautiful pristine northern Michigan a few years ago.

Irony of the century that their rewilding causes so much air pollution. But hey, natural or bust, right?

It's a gorgeous weekend here with perfect weather, clear gorgeous blue skies and sun, wonderful people. Why anyone stays in the PNW is beyond me.

About 780 square miles of Oregon are on fire now, (was around 500+ last week). Oregon is 98300+ square miles...so it seems small, but it’s concentrated mostly in a smaller area.

The Forest Service has dismantled or abandoned the fire lookouts that used to track lightening strikes by taking azimuth reading and recording them. Then the lookout would monitor those sightings the next day or days for any smoke appearance.

Other lookout in the vicinity would do the same. Then the two or three would triangulate the location of the smokes and report to the HQ.

In my youth I fought fires. We didn't have the big ones like we have now. We would be on them before they became so large.

One other point: The Forest Service used to issue grazing permits for cattle and sheep. The grazing kept the meadows and brush from overgrowing.

Some of the fires could have been the result of sabotage.
