The Los Angeles City Council voted on Wednesday to replace the Columbus Day holiday in October with Indigenous Peoples Day...
Supporters of the plan argued that Christopher Columbus' connection to brutality and slavery makes him no longer worthy of celebration...

I think it’s more Columbus’ connection to Christianity which makes him “unworthy” in the eyes of the left.
Disgraceful.
Illegal Alien Day?
I agree.
The city council must have no idea how silly they look.
Columbus Day is a federal holiday. A lowly city council doesn’t have any power to change that.
If I’m not mistaken, Columbus Day is a federal holiday. So LA does not have the authority to actually change the name.
The liberals can go around calling Christmas by the name Festivus, but it doesn’t change the name of the actual federal holiday. Same concept here. They can call it something else in the city limits of LA but they don’t have jurisdiction to change it for the country.
My opinion as a Choctaw whose folk suffered the first Trail of Tears and who were generally cheated by the First Democrat President, is that this is simply STUPID.
History is what it is. Columbus had an immeasurable effect upon world civilization. I don’t begrudge him his Day. I can celebrate it or not in my own fashion.
Which indigenous people? A lot of them enslaved their neighbors or engaged in human sacrifice. We wouldn’t want to celebrate them, would we?
Next, change Presidents Day to Cracka Slave Owner Day.
I can dig it. It has always been a European conceit that Columbus discovered something. “Discovered” by Spaniards, maybe, or maybe not. The Vikings may have beat them to it. Besides, America was already populated. Could a tribe never in contact with modern civilization send out a native who lurched into Caracas claim to have discovered Caracas?
They’ll have to change the name of the city, too.
Officially, it’s The Pueblo of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of Portiuncula”, or, “Los Angeles”, for short.
Also most of the other cities and towns in California will have to be renamed.
Maybe we can find out what the peaceful, placid, indigenous people called places while they were out raiding and killing each other in tribal wars...
A bunch of Italian BIGOTS!!!
Isn’t this Nativist racism? Isn’t America open to all migrants, whether they were here originally or came from afar? Why not celebrate the new migrants rather than blindly holding on to the continents indigenous past? They need to have open minds.
Some peoples’ ancestors may have gotten here earlier than others, but no human in the western hemisphere is indigenous.
Didn't the Left say "no memorials for losers," re: Confederate monuments?
Not to mention cannibalism. Montezuma was said to have had an infant dressed and roasted every morning for his breakfast. I wonder if that will be “celebrated” by these Leftwing loons? Maybe they can bbq all the aborted fetuses from L.A.s many Planned Parenthood Clinics as part of the Indigenous Peoples Day festivities.
