The man accused of ramming his car into protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday seems to have already been found “guilty” by the media… but there may be more to the story than is being reported.

A video posted on Streamable reveals that the driver of the Challenger had slowed down and was apparently calm, until protesters hit his vehicle with a blunt object such as a baseball bat or large flag pole.

Why was a protest going on where cars were driving down the street?
There is a video of a girl being the first of the several that climbs on the right trunk after the car has ceased forward motion. She is also the first to strike the rear window putting a sizable hole in it with what sure looks like a baseball bat. It sure looks like she gets pinned between his car and that black trucked the car goes into reverse. From what I have read she is the fatality.

Good question that hasn’t been answered yet. Also an excellent reason not to judge the driver’s actions yet.
I got the picture from a search after seeing it here. The zoomed in pic is taken from the smaller pic which was taken as the car sped away.
He may be a cold blooded killer. He may have been scared into accelerating in which case the people that attacked his car should be sent to prison.
Anyone who says they KNOW either way at this point is full of crap.

I don’t really care why he did what he did. I don’t care about his politics. The guy plowed into a bunch of people, hurting many of them and killing one of them. He has to stand accountable. Hopefully he does serious prison time.
I heard he was being held without bail and the public defender has refused to take his case.

The politics of any of the persons is irrelevant. It does not justify his actions.
It would be helpful if you could post a link to that information. I’d be curious to know why the public defender refused to take the case. He may have one or more conflicts of interest if he knows anyone involved in the case.

“I’m sure if you would ask James he would say I was his favorite or one of his favorite teachers,” said Weimer, adding that he had Fields in three classes directly and had regular interaction with him after classes and during free time.
“I feel like I failed and that we all failed,” Weimer said of Fields. “He was a very bright kid but very misguided and disillusioned.”
Weimer told the Associated Press that Fields was fascinated with Nazism, idolized Adolf Hitler and had “deeply held, radical” convictions on race.
“Once you talked to James for a while, you would start to see that sympathy towards Nazism, that idolization of Hitler, that belief in white supremacy,” Weimer said. “It would start to creep out”.

You want me to search for your posts in a 268 post thread? I suspect I have seen it. I spent Sunday and Monday watching every video they put up at 4chan. If the strike on the left rear of the car is what you are referring to, there are other, better, vids of that strike, and at least one that shows just before that hit the guy had at least tapped the brakes. After that he he moves forward again, and in about 20 feet strikes the rear of the car in front of him. The overhead drone shot shows that car was surrounded but was not being attacked. Oh, that driver was black. Why was there a fire truck around the corner across both lanes? Where was the fire? How many other ways out of the car park were there without going down THAT street? Was that first girl that jumped on the right side of his trunk and landed the first blow on his rear window the girl that was killed? It appears to me from the video above and from the right rear she probably was. Look at the frames from the rear in the “better” video from the same angle as the one you posted. There is almost no distance laterally between the right rear of his car and that black truck. If she had her pelvis in that space when he reversed that is why she died. If she chose to put her pelvis in that space participating in an attack on his car I think I could get him a not guilty verdict and I am no lawyer.
The standard in many states is that if you are in fear of yours or others lives you are allowed to use deadly force. Not sure about VA and I’m too lazy to look it up. Based upon what I have seen in several videos of this event the guy is guilty - at the worst - of vehicular manslaughter. I would vote not guilty if I was on the jury and the charge for him was murder in any degree.
We'll see what happens when a preliminary hearing is scheduled. If the guy didn't have a lawyer for that hearing, then the case really hasn't even begun yet.
