The Humiliation Of Jeff Sessions
Fox News ^ | 7-20-2017 | Chris Stirewalt

Posted on 07/20/2017 1:22:47 PM PDT by blam

There is something more than a little jarring in the ongoing humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate.

When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all.

The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in contravention of all available evidence that somehow if Sessions had not recused himself from the investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign that his White House will not be under siege.

“How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?” Trump asked reporters rhetorically. “If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, ‘Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.’ It’s extremely unfair – and that’s a mild word – to the president.”

Sessions seems an odd target for Trump’s blame, given how other members of his inner circle including his son, his son-in-law, his former campaign chairman and his former national security advisor have all laid the president open to the scrutiny of special counsel Robert Mueller.

I’m on your team. Fragile little butterfly Sessions needs to go into his chrysalis and come out as a fire breathing dragon. Anything less and his best option is to resign his position, recuse himself to his safe room and cry into his pillow while a real AG picks up the pieces and goes after the criminal cabal led by the Clintons, Podesta and others.

Where the “F” is the action against the democrat felons who have tried their best to destroy this country for 8 long years?!?

I was at the dentist’s office recently where I saw a Time magazine on the table. On the cover was a picture of the Kremlin superimposed on the White House. Just pure propaganda.

Two reasons, the first it that the demonRATs have no honor.

The second is that those two aren't and never have been Senators.

I know the senate was suppose to be the equivalent of the House of Lords, providing balance and stability to the possibility of a hot-headed House of Representatives but they have taken it too far and turned it into a aristocracy where it is us against the commoners.

This has lead to a system where you automatically follow the advise of your class rather then stopping to think that maybe they are steering you wrong.

I don't hate Sessions, I even like the guy. But this is not a game and we are not playing with gentlemen.

“If the recusal was really a problem then Trump would have given this interview months ago.”

Reports are that Trump was Fuming from day one. He finally exploded.

To avoid even the slightest appearance that he was Trump's man....

The AG answers to the president, Trump. Who do you think the AG works for?

Here is a comment by Rush today on the 2018 mid terms...

But I think it can also be considered in this situation about how people feel about Sessions...

“...Many people, I think, are making a mistake in the Trump era by continuing to look at things in the traditional Republican-versus-Democrat way...”

In other words, do NOT look at this deal with Sessions as the normal political way common to Washington...

You have a point there! He’s the AG now, Trump should just lay off him and not give the MSM any more fodder.

Sessions royally screwed President Trump with his recusal, plain and simple. I think Sessions earned disrespect by acting like a typical Republican politician squish when it really mattered. Now he appears to be more worried about prosecuting marijuana and expanding civil forfeiture than in investigating the very numerous and serious crimes committed by the Obama admin and Clinton campaign. It is exactly the type of behavior I have come to expect from a republican senator.

Your comment is a brave one and unlikely to win much love here in Trumpland. FWIW though I mostly agree with you, but then again Trump was never my first choice... or my 2nd, 3rd etc. He was my last. But here we are. He may be an SOB but at least he is our SOB.

“And my guess is that Sessions knows also what is going on....”

We need to be out of the “guessing stage” at this juncture. There is ample evidence of the fact that Sessions isn’t up to the job of AG, and there is an open question in my mind as to his actual loyalty to the President.

Sessions recused because it was the ethical thing to do and required by DOJ regulation .something the ethically challenged Donald Trump would never understand.

Donald Trump doesn’t wait six minutes — let alone six months — to “explode” over anything. He also doesn’t “explode” by holding a well-planned interview with the New York Times.

Mueller is close friends with Comey and one of them is godfather to the other ones child. Too close, too cozy. Trump or someone should complain.

Some people get into too big of a hurry and the result isn’t near as good as if more time were taken to fully disclose and punish the wrong doings...

Give it time...Six months is not a long time with everything else that has been thrown at this administration....
