But they are claiming the DDG did not detect it. And that is 100% pure D bullsh!t.
Freighter Was On Autopilot When It Hit U.S. Destroyer
Horsehockey
North Korean hack?
Yeah, that’s a tough one to understand. EVERYBODY asleep at the wheel and scopes? No wing watches posted?
Why didn’t the radar on the destroyer show that ship?
Abu Sayyef?
Also, I’d heard that this class US ship is a pretty nimble sea farer.
Considering the odd course change and zigzag the freighter took, this sounds like BS
This is one of those cases where NOTHING rings true.
This is BS. A WW2 destroyer would have detected this cargo ship on radar.
The collision NEVER should have happened. Just gross incompetence and carelessness.
On top of that, nothing on the destroyer picked up the fact that a 29000 ton ship was heading straight at it? Well, those radars will work really well against mach 4 incoming missiles about as big around as a telephone pole. Maybe they had them set to not detect anything not traveling faster than sixty knots or something like that. You know, to keep from picking up all the pesky little stuff.
IMHo, none of this seems like the truth, just the minimum BS to try and keep the stench down while they sweep it under the rug.
Doesn’t matter.
Do you realize how utterly stupid you have to be to allow any other ship to run into you?
Years ago something similar happened and the idiot skipper was elected POTUS.
But they are claiming the DDG did not detect it. And that is 100% pure D bullsh!t.
If the Navy can’t detect a container ship the size of a large office building, what can they see with all that sophisticated and expensive equipment onboard?
Sure it was.
a freighter on autopolot does not make TWO 180 degree turns in the hour leading up to the collision.
it was deliberate.
Far too many former Navy brass are making a big deal about a container ship being on autopilot, when the fact is that most ships are on autopilot.
From the charts I have seen the Fitzgerald crossed in front of the Crystal just prior to 16:30 UTC. The Fitzgerald acted like a tug pushing on the bow of the Crystal turning the Crystal 90 degrees in short order.
So was the Fitzgerald on autopilot and there was nobody at the helm to shut down the Fitzgerald’s engines?

I understand the Commander of the ship has a sleeping cabin immediately next to the bridge and that is where the Commander is supposed to sleep while the ship is at sea.
I understand the Commander was sleeping in his main cabin that is used when the ship is not at sea.
The issue with the time of the collision really needs to be cleared up, because it’s really messing with some interpretations of events.
The 1.30am collision time now reported by the Japanese coastguard makes way more sense for the Crystal’s path.
