Well, those radars will work really well against mach 4 incoming missiles about as big around as a telephone pole. Maybe they had them set to not detect anything not traveling faster than sixty knots or something like that. You know, to keep from picking up all the pesky little stuff.

I think they are saying supposedly all the changes in course happened after the collision, like afterwards the cargo ship came back to check, then turned around again and headed back on course.
