The deadly collision between a U.S. destroyer and a container ship June 17 took place while the freighter was on autopilot, according to Navy officials.
The Philippines-flagged cargo ship ACX Crystal was under control of a computerized navigation system that was steering and guiding the container vessel, according to officials familiar with preliminary results of an ongoing Navy investigation.
Investigators so far found no evidence the collision was deliberate.

But they are claiming the DDG did not detect it. And that is 100% pure D bullsh!t.
If the Navy can’t detect a container ship the size of a large office building, what can they see with all that sophisticated and expensive equipment onboard?
“Why didn’t the radar on the destroyer show the ship?”
*****************************************************
Despite what the article says, I strongly suspect the radar & other sensors DID detect the ship. The navy personnel on duty either were inattentive or failed to take appropriate action to avoid the impending collision — or both.
Deliberate ramming.
Anyone pretending this isn't extremely suspect needs a theory, not people pointing out that in addition to two hundred plus years of naval experience with not slamming ships into one another (including WWII where large fleets of ships worked together without slamming into one another) along with the fact that the destroyer in question is outfitted with the latest radars and sensors we can build.
Sure it was.
A radar malfunction at 2:30 AM makes it all credible.
Yep.
Methinks the bridge watch was watching something other than the course of the ship.
Playing grab ass, computer games, porn, etc.
Although, that would be highly unlikely.
Just sayin
Incoming!
5.56mm
Another Freeper said the reported time on the ship’s track was wrong and all the zigging was after the collision.
But ships DO move like that on ALLAH PILOT..................
“Deliberate ramming.”
There is no plausible scenario, even if it was a deliberate ramming, where the crew of the Fitz was not at fault.
None. Zip. Nada.
To risk a $1.5bil asset and lose SEVEN of the crew is criminal negligence and dereliction of duty in ALL scenarios.
Even a fool knows this DDG saw the freighter coming and was capable of avoiding her.
I imagine the helmsman got the steering commands from the Officer on Deck wrong and steered the destroyer right into the freighter. He/she probably did not know their left from their right.
Hey, it happens to the best sometimes ...
Port or Starboard?
All commands are repeated back for verification followed by “aye”.
they still jacked this one up.
Your opinion, same as butt holes everyone has one. Bring proof I’ll listen. Until then, go away. I don’t appreciate being called a fool with your backhanded comment.
Chinese or NorK interference with ship NAV / electronics systems - this was a warning to our navy to stay out of territory.
A 2015 declassified intelligence report, obtained by the private National Security Archive, provides details on Chinas EMP weapons as well as the plans for their use.
The report details how much of Chinas military is developing EMP weapons that the Chinese plan to use against targeted U.S. aircraft carriers with regard to any future conflict over Taiwan.

I think they are saying supposedly all the changes in course happened after the collision, like afterwards the cargo ship came back to check, then turned around again and headed back on course.
Freegards
a freighter on autopolot does not make TWO 180 degree turns in the hour leading up to the collision.
it was deliberate.
on the freighters 1st run towards the DDG it unleashed an EMP that had the destroyer dead in the water and blind.
On the second run it rammed it.
Note that it hit the DDG square not a glancing blow.
It was when all their Windows installs rebooted with updates.
