Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich appeared on The View Tuesday morning to discuss all things Donald Trump with the ladies. At one point, host Jedediah Bila asked Gingrich about Trump’s support among the public. “Are people frustrated with him, are they disappointed with him? What are they feeling out there?” she asked.
Gingrich expressed his surprise that the President has been able to garner any level of support from the public after the “endless barrage” of negative, even hostile press he has faced since he announced his bid for the White House.
Gingrich cited a recent Harvard study which found that 93% of the media coverage of the President was negative prompting host Whoopi Goldberg to make a bizarre, perhaps delusional claim about the relationship between Donald Trump and the media:
GINGRICH: I think it’s amazing, if you look at the — for example, CNN’s 93% negative coverage according to Harvard, 93% negative, I think it’s a miracle that Trump has any approval.
JOY BEHAR: Oh, my God.
GINGRICH: Constant unending barrage —
BEHAR: I have a question, too.
WHOOPI: So, do you mean, because I recall––and maybe I’m crazy––but I recall from the time the gentleman came down the escalator until the time he won, he was 24/7 on every television on every network forcing– making one of the head of the networks saying, ‘Yeah, it wasn’t good for America but it was great for us.’ It was all positive until people started asking questions. Now —
GINGRICH: It wasn’t all positive!
SUNNY HOSTIN: It was live coverage of Donald Trump was saying.
WHOOPI: I’m sorry, I —
GINGRICH: It was all noisy but it wasn’t all positive.
WHOOPI: No, no. 98% of it was positive, Newt.
There is no doubt that the media coverage of Donald Trump was not quite as hostile when his candidacy was considered by many to be nothing more than a publicity stunt. The coverage become increasingly more negative as Trump’s chances of victory became more apparent eventually devolving to all-negative-all-the-time coverage from most media outlets. But, even in the early days, 98% postive?

They slammed Trump 24/7/365 while he was running.
Good grief, former Conservative internet sites joined in.
They attempted to toss the debates to others by pinpointing him with personal attacks.
Remember the WSJ, the WP, the NYT, and almost every other paper. They were attacking him prior to the nomination.
Remember Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, and a host of other internet sites. Remember FoxNews, CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC?
Remember the NFL and it’s players? Remember ESPN?
It was full on attack Trump mode throughout.
Megan Kelly tossed out the first pitch including reference to Rosie O’Donnell. The media swooned for weeks about that, after Trump ripped her for doing it.

To prove it, ask Goldberg this... “You say that you know what 98% is. Then answer this: 724,122 people, or 98% of some number of people who were sampled, think Obama was a foreign born fraud who wasn’t even constitutionally qualified to be our president. How many people were sampled? You can use your calculator.”
Who thinks she could answer? If she knows what 98% is, she could guess the answer and get pretty close. But if I’m right, and she doesn’t know what 98% means, she couldn’t get close guessing, and she couldn’t calculate it with her calculator either. In other words, when she says 98% of the news stories about Trump were favorable, she has no idea what she’s talking about. Hence, the absurdity of the claim.
I really don’t see a problem here...

She has long been an expert senior political analyst ever since she graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a BS in Political Science, then Wharton School of Business with a Masters in Business Management, Then her Law Degree from Harvard...
She has worked directly with ALL presidents since Eisenhower, you know....

So from my standpoint, the MSM coverage of Trump was very positive. They hate his guts and I hate their guts.

Pres. Trump got more face time on the cable channels than all other 16 GOP candidates combined. That is media. Erick Erickson, Beck, Levin have auudience but thet are not news media. Pres. Trump was on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, he was almost a regular on Fox and friends. Nor was he bludgeoned on these appearances. The hope was to elevate him to the nomination and get him slaughtered in the General. So once he got the nod the media turned on a dime and gave a nickel change. Now if the former Mrs. Ted Danson is talking about the General and the Presidency, she is in need of treatment for delusions.
What you are forgetting is that every time he was on, they literally trashed him. Good grief.
The media coverage of Trump was negative from the word go.
The only people who spin the way your are, are the Ted Cruz supporters who made this claim all along, and completely ignored the fact that when he was on, it was one scandal after another that was focused on.
